  • Helen Flanagan, who's currently expecting her second child, has revealed that she is suffering from pregnancy swelling much earlier than her previous pregnancy.

Helen, already mum to two-year-old daughter Matilda, posted a picture on her Instagram showing off her blossoming baby bump. The star revealed she was pregnant with her second child back in December.

In the caption, the soap star revealed that she was struggling with swelling in her ankles and was ‘gutted’ that she couldn’t wear some new shoes during her babymoon to Dubai.

Helen wrote: ‘Throwback to my outfit that I wore to the airport the other week 💁🏼‍♀️✈️#maternityfashion love my new espadrilles was just gutted that my feet didn’t fit in them in Dubai with swelling 😫x anyone else pregnant have really bad pregnancy swelling in their feet? I had it with Matilda when I was 9 months but I’ve got it early this time and I have no ankles 😩😄xxx.’

Fans were quick to comment on the post, sharing their own experiences and warning the star that the swelling could be a sign of a more serious condition – pre-eclampsia.

One wrote: ‘Yesss! The start of my preeclampsia 😩😩 xx’, while another said: ‘You need to get that double checked. Xx’.

Mum-of-three Kim Kardashian famously suffered from life-threatening pre-eclampsia during her first pregnancy with North.

Pre-eclampsia is a condition that affects some women from the second half of their pregnancy (at around 20 weeks) or soon after the baby is born.

Early signs of the condition can include high blood pressure and protein in your urine but it is unlikely you would notice this unless it is detected during your antenatal appointments.
Helen has been enjoying some time away with her partner before their new arrival

The NHS warns: ‘Although many cases are mild, the condition can lead to serious complications for both mother and baby if it’s not monitored and treated’.

Helen’s fans offered their advice on how they coped with the swelling. One said: ‘I had it towards the end try some reflexology it works magic and really cleared my fat ankles’. Another commented: ‘Get those legs raised!’

While a third wrote: ‘I had really bad swelling for the last 3 months of my pregnancy. I was carrying through the summer though which didn’t help! Only thing I could get on my feet were flip flops two sizes bigger 😂😂’.
