1 . Christmas countdown with a twist

Sure, you can go for your traditional chocolate advent calendar, but if you fancy a twist wrap up 25 different books for your kids to unwrap each day and then read that night. They can be a mix of Christmassy and normal books. Or maybe themed... 25 days of Paw Patrol, anyone?

Advent count downs are fun, plus the science tells us that rituals, such as Christmas family traditions, are important in their own right. Routines such as this offer up structure and predictability which manage rates of anxiety. So, your mums traditional trifle is good for your mental health.

2. Elf on the shelf

This fun family Christmas tradition - a bit like advent - kicks off on December 1st in the UK. Parents and carers move the elf around the house each evening for the kids to wake up to. There are so may ideas and if you don't have the imagination (lets be honest it's the end of the year!) try our round up of naughty elf on the shelf ideas.

Or alternatively, turn your elf on the shelf into a kindness elf and have them help you around the house or leave notes when they've seen your kids are kind or thoughtful.

Mum-of-three, Dionne says: "I whinge (and maybe swear a bit) about moving the elf every year, but really I know my kids absolutely love it. And it sparks conversation on the school run every morning. He even had us talking about body consent over toast one memorable Monday!"

3. Write to Father Christmas

A classic tradition to introduce for your little ones is sending a letter to Santa. And they don't even need to be able to write. A fun tear and stick down activity with pictures of toys cut out is just as fun for them to "send to Santa".

You can also try the Polar post. Mum-of-two, Sam tells us; "It is a little pricey but I think it's worth it. It's so beautifully written that it's almost like an heirloom. It will be going in their memory boxes, they'll thank me one day I'm sure."

4. Creating and sending Christmas cards

This could be a nice half day activity, especially if you make it a Christmas mission. Don a Santa hat and walk or drive to your nearest post box to deliver.

And, creating them makes it another crafty choice to immerse your little ones in. It can really engage your children and invite them to think about the people they're writing to. Note: It's worth remembering that children can focus on something or about 15 minutes at a time. So ready yourself if they decide they're done.

5. Christmas crockery

From Christmas mugs, gravy boats, charger plates, and wine glasses. The tradition of getting out 'the Christmas crockery' is a real marker that Christmas is on it's way! And it's fun to start this young, as it also helps them enjoy eating - every little helps when it comes to fussy eaters. We adore this penguin mug, from Matalan.

Dad-of-three, Marc tells us; "I remember my mum always used to bring out this special cake stand that was only meant for Christmas, it had a shiny gold handle at the top. It felt special, to use only at Christmas. It gave our homemade cake a real sense of occasion!"

6. A Christmassy day out

As family Christmas traditions go, if in doubt, making memories from experiences is a winner. A family day out - whether immediate family or with your uncle you only see at Christmas time - is always a day to remember.

There are a few favourites to choose from, for a day out. We have the best Christmas markets in the UK if you fancy a festive mooch with a gluhwein in hand, maybe book a ticket on the Polar Express or pop along to Lapland UK (this sold out by Sept in 2021, so get in quick if want to go.) Just don't forget to wear your best Christmas jumpers while you're out and about. 

7. Wreath making / Christmas crafting

Research shows that the spirit of Christmas, such as family traditions, manifests as a multitude of positive feelings and behaviours that are experienced collectively, including goodwill and generosity. So turn your hand to wreath making!

There are plenty of florists across the country who have branched out (pun intended) to offering workshops on wreath making around Christmas time. Failing that, cut out a ring of white paper, leave your kids with some paints and let them go creatively crazy.

8. Ginger bread house making

Ah, the art of patience, careful hands and more patience. Gingerbread house making is fun, and fair warning it can become competitive!

"I'm one of four, and it started off as mum's sibling team building exercise. Well now, we're in our 30's and we each buy the same kit and do a group Zoom call to compete for the best house. 9. Family photo

Make a point of taking a family photo, all together in front of the tree, on the stairs, out in the snow anywhere you feel it's right. Just make sure everyone, we're looking at you always-behind-the-camera mum, is in it and you print it!

"Throughout the year I collect and print photos. Whether it's holidays we've been on or the boys just splashing about in the paddling pool. And I create a book of photos for that year. With my grand finale always being a family photo around the tree. It's not an easy tradition and takes some time. 10. North Pole breakfast

The North Pole Christmas breakfast is traditionally a complete blow out to celebrate the beginning of the festive season, so prepare yourself for some excited children! To get the whole family really in the Christmas mood it’s nice to theme all of the food and decor to look as Christmassy as possible. You can let your imagination run wild with decorations (but don’t worry, we have some tips to help you too).

11. Dress up your pet

Dogs are part of the family, this much is true. So why should they escape the festive tradition of dressing up for Christmas! This year, and every year after, turn your dog into a Christmas elf, reindeer or the most adorable Christmas pudding you've ever seen! Then just enjoy, or take a photo of them.

"I found an adorable doggie santa hat and when I put it on my dog Mabel, I loved it and knew it had to be a card! A classic, every year Santa's Grottos are a staple, a go-to. Whether you book a garden centre, trek to a city-centre, pop the shopping centre, sitting with Santa is a festive tradition across generations. Did you know that this is a truly English tradition, not American. The first place ever to invite Father Christmas to 'meet' children was in Liverpool. And amazingly, the first ever grotto is still going strong 137 years on.

You roll your eyes at the mention of Christmas jumpers. And the ugliest one you own, sits at the back of the wardrobe until it's time to shine! Get it out, add a Santa hat you're good to go!

Get in the spirit with a Christmas movie! Whether you're a fan of the old classics - looking at you Santa Claus the movie. 15. Christmas light Express

Every area has one. THE house who goes all out with Christmas lights!  Some areas have full streets of houses committed to the sharing the Christmas spirit. So wrap up warm and go on a treasure hunt looking for lights, or jump in the car with a flask of hot (warm) chocolate and go Christmas light hunting.

19. Leave a treat for Santa

1st birthday party ideas: Invites

Before you consider anything else, you need to think about who you want to invite to your child’s birthday party. This will influence everything else, including what food and drink to buy and prepare, and what kind of entertainment or games you’ll want to organise. In this section, we take a look at how to write a guest list, invite ideas, and how to deal with any awkwardness if you need to limit the number of people coming to your child’s birthday.

When it comes to a 1st birthday celebration, it’s best to limit the number of people you invite. Your baby might get overwhelmed with the sheer number of strange faces and there'll be even more for you to do on the big day. You might want to limit the party to close friends and family only, so the baby is familiar with everyone in the room and there’s not too much going on. 

"I kept my daughter's first birthday to just immediate family - we had no more than 10. And it was just afternoon tea with cake and sandwiches, and I timed it for an hour just before her nap so she wasn't overwhelmed. It was nice and calm." Mum-of-one Emma says. 

Whereas if you have older siblings keeping t quiet and calm isn't always an option; "my three boys couldn't wait to celebrate their baby sister turning one, but it just meant that it was more a party for them than here." Mum-of-three, Jasmine tells us.

Guests could obviously include grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins and a few baby friends from any playgroups and NCT classes. 

Limiting numbers does come with the risk of upsetting people, and whilst it’s hard to avoid, a party planner recommends getting around this by inviting people face-to-face instead of online to keep things more low-key. Michael Rossini from Froggle Parties says, “You can never fully avoid upsetting someone, but you do much more damage control by inviting people face to face.”

Or if this is too difficult, you could do a private WhatsApp group with a select few people. Once your guest list is confirmed, you'll want to make a start on your invites. These will need to include your child's name, the name of the child you're inviting, the date, start and end time, and location of the party.  

Invites are also a great way of ensuring everyone has any extra information they might need ahead of time - do you need to warn people about parking for example, or give them any important info about allergies etc?  In the digital age, there are all sorts of ways to invite someone to your party. Whether it’s personalised invitations, homemade ones, or a simple Facebook event, there are lots you can choose from.

• Personalised invites online: Websites like Moonpig and Zazzle allow you to make your own invites quickly and easily - you can use pictures of your baby if you like and go for something funny, cute or quirky.
• Homemade invites: If you've got lots of time and some good design skills, why not make your own on Photoshop? Alternatively, you could buy some coloured card and make your cards by hand. Have a look around a craft shop for some extra decorations for your invites, such as glitter pens and stickers. There are lots of places you can buy crafting materials, such as Wilko and Hobbycraft.
• Facebook invites: If you're short of time, a Facebook event is an effective way to get the details of your baby's party to your friends. It's a good idea to send a message reminding all your guests of the details a week before. Make sure you don't forget to text anyone who doesn't have Facebook (they do exist!) or doesn't check their accounts regularly.

As mentioned above, you could also set up a WhatsApp group to let people know about the party - especially if you’re keen to keep things low key, you don’t mind group chats and other people have access to the app.

A one-year-old won't really appreciate fancy dress, but they will look cute - and provide some great photo opportunities you can look back on for years to come.  If you want to get really into a fancy dress theme, you can buy all sorts of costumes for babies - such as animals, superheroes, fairies to suit any theme. John Lewis and Amazon  have great, affordable options.

A 1st birthday party is such a special time in any parent’s life, and you’ll no doubt want to commemorate this occasion by taking lots of pictures. There are lots of things you can do to get your party Instagram ready, so you can easily look back on your child’s birthday.

 We’ve put together some helpful tips to help you prepare.

• Clear a space in your living room or garden for the party's main setting, make sure it’s baby-proofed!
• Put down a selection of mats, cushions or other soft furnishings for little ones to play on and ensure they’re safe and comfortable.
• A themed buffet area with paper plates and other cute decorations will brighten up the space without you needing to spend too much time on it.
• Cute pictures of your baby will go down well with friends and relatives and can complement the other decorations you decided to go for.
• You can bulk out the decorations with balloons, bunting or paper chains - especially if it’s popular cartoon characters or a familiar animal that your baby loves. But these should be placed out of reach, to prevent them from bursting and scaring your little one. 

There are all sorts of popular themes for kids parties out there, with decorations to suit just about any taste. You might want to go for superheroes, princesses, pirates, dinosaurs… the possibilities really are endless! Or, you could opt for a colourful theme, like bright and sparkly or spots and stripes.

However, you might fancy something a bit different or just want to avoid the cleaning up! If that’s the case, there’s a couple of ideas you could consider to celebrate with your little one.

• Indoor soft play centre: Any indoor soft play centre that has a baby area is a great idea for a first birthday party! Babies will be able to play on the soft shapes and in the ball pit too. You could enquire if the centre does special party deals which can include food and a party bag at the end too.

Looking for the best plants to grow with kids? Sowing a seed in earth is like magic. And the reward of watching a seedling push its head into the sunlight is a thrill for all ages.

Growing plants with kids and they'll be learning all sorts of amazing science. It will help them understand where food comes from and they’ll be discovering how to look after their ’baby’ plants too.

What’s more, you even can grow plants with kids indoors if you don’t have a garden.

To grow plants with kids, you will need:

• Seeds
• Compost
• Water
• Plant pots (clean, used yogurt cartons with drainage holes in the bottom will do)
• Clear plastic bag (or clingfilm or the top or bottom of a plastic bottle)

How to sow seeds

You’ll find the growing instruction on the back of your seed packets. Try to sow seeds indoors if it’s windy outside!

Fill each pot by three-quarters with compost. Next, poke a couple of holes in the soil, drop a seed in each, water and place in a clear plastic bag on a sunny window ledge.

The plastic bag locks in moisture and warmth, which helps the seed to ‘germinate’ or break through its seed coating.

A shoot will appear in search of light. That's how plants make ‘food’ for themselves, using light and a process called photosynthesis.

Out of sight, roots will be growing down into the soil to absorb moisture and nutrients from the soil.

Plants are thirsty, so water daily but don’t drench them.

Once the seedlings have grown at least two sets of leaves, you can put them outside for a short while in a shady, sheltered spot.

Increase the amount of time they are outdoors and transplant into a larger pot with more compost until they are ready to be planted in the ground, a larger pot or a growbag.

The best plants to grow with kids

Sunflowers

These seeds – which are about half the size of your child’s smallest fingernail – will be sunny plants that will tower above them by August. Be patient because they will take around a week to germinate.

Project: Measure and record your plant’s growth every day.

Harvest: Once the sunflower has bloomed, it will set seed and make a wonderful September larder for hungry birds.

Radishes

The fast food of the vegetable world, these are a great edible starter crop for kids. As well as being easy to grow, the colourful roots are ready for eating within a month of sowing.

Project: Cut a yogurt carton into strips, so your child can write Radishes and the date the seed was sown

Harvest: Hold the green tops to gently lift radishes from the soil. Remove the leaves, clean in water, slice carefully to make a pretty pink radish sandwich or salad.

Sweet peas

These seeds can be soaked on damp kitchen towel before planting directly outdoors in April or May for lovely scented blooms from July to September.

Project: Make a wigwam with bamboo canes or long twigs to support these climbing flowers and notice how the tendrils cling on – is it clockwise or anticlockwise?

Harvest: Pick the flowers regularly to encourage more growth.

Tomatoes

Homegrown, sun-ripened tomatoes are the sweetest to eat. Kids will love growing cherry types, which can be planted in a hanging basket. They’ll need regular watering and when the plants are larger, a weekly tomato feed. The seeds are small, so lick your finger, then dab the seed to make it easier to pick up

Project: Grow topsy-turvy tomatoes. Make a small hole in the bottom of a hanging basket or bucket, fill with compost and place the tomato plant in the hole. The plant will grow downwards for easier picking without needing support!

Harvest: Pick, wash and eat or try slow roasting tomatoes to make a yummy pizza topping or pasta sauce.

Nasturtiums

The size of large peppercorns, these seeds are easy for small hands. Sow in pots or directly into the earth and eight weeks later you’ll have a mass of orange, red or yellow flowers.

Project: Count how many you have of each colour every day.

Harvest: You can eat the leaves and the peppery tasting flowers! They look amazing in salads. In the autumn, Collect the seeds, brush off the soil, dry them on a sheet of newspaper, and put them in a paper envelope in a cool and dark place, ready for next year.

Runner beans

These large beans are another easy-to-hand seed. Sow directly outdoors or in pots indoors from March-June. Unless you plant dwarf varieties, you’ll need canes to support your plants.

Project: Slugs and snails like eating the young plants, so to deter these ‘predators’ surround the plants with crushed eggshells and the middle part of a plastic bottle covered with petroleum jelly. Or if your children aren’t sensitive, make beer traps – fill an empty jar or yogurt carton with watered down beer, bury to the rim in the soil and wait for the slugs to crawl in.

Harvest: You’ll be picking beans 12-14 weeks after sowing the seeds – they’re yummy in stir fries!

Using the crochet hook and B, make a 60 in. (1.5 m) crochet chain.

Making up and finishing

Weave in loose yarn tails at the tips of the flags and the ends of the crocheted cord. With the RS of the flags facing, fold over the base of each flag to the WS and oversew in place using matching colour A to form the casing for the cord. Using the safety pin, thread the cord through the casings of the flags, alternating colours as you go. Spread the flags out evenly on the cord, leaving sufficient length at each end for hanging your bunting.

This bright and bold card is made from torn paper so it's fun and easy for even younger crafters to do.

'MUM' card equipment

1 yellow sheet of A4 card; pink, blue, brown and light green A4 paper; ruler; glue stick; scissors; green ribbon; mini wooden peg.

How to make a 'MUM' card

Fold a sheet of yellow card in half and tear the pink paper into the word 'MUM' - you can use a ruler to help you tear the paper neatly. Rip the blue, brown, green paper in half lengthways. Assemble the blue, brown and green paper on the yellow card as shown in the picture above, leaving a little of the yellow card showing at the top, then stick everything down and trim off the excess paper. Stick the pink 'MUM' letters on top. Tie the green ribbon into a pretty bow and attach it to the card using the wooden peg. Your 'MUM' card is ready to write in and send.

Homemade Mother's Day with rose design

Your kids will need some celery and paint to make this pretty stamped-rose card.

Rose card equipment

White and brown A4 card; celery heart; pink paint squirted onto a paper plate; green paint; paintbrush; scissors; glue; brown felt pen; pink ribbon.

How to make a rose card

Take a celery heart and cut off the stalks using a knife. Dip the celery heart, stalks-end first, into the pink paint and make a print onto white card (have a few test prints first). Paint on a green stalk and some leaves and the celery print will suddenly start to look like a rose. Once the rose has dried, cut it out and stick it onto brown card, which has been folded in half. Using a brown felt pen draw a wood effect around the border to look like a wooden frame. Then tie a pink bow and stick it onto the rose card to finish it off.

Print off your 'mum I owe you' voucher, then cut the voucher out. Cut out a large gift-tag shape from the tan card and stick the voucher on. Next, punch a hole in the corner of the gift tag voucher and tie on a ribbon. Write your gift on the voucher using your best black pen and your voucher is ready to give away.

Homemade Mother's Day body scrub

Kids will have fun mixing up this gorgeous beauty scrub using skin-loving ingredients from the kitchen, and it comes in a pretty pink jar too.

Body scrub jar equipment

Extra virgin olive oil; sugar; 5 drops of lavender essential oil; spoon; 1 jar with lid; pink acrylic paint; PVA glue; paintbrush; iridescent white glitter; stick-on gems; pink ribbon.

How to make a body scrub jar

To make the body scrub, mix equal parts of sugar and olive oil together, followed by 5 drops of lavender essential oil and spoon the scrub into a clean jar. To decorate the jar, paint the lid using a 50/50 mixture of paint and PVA glue, then sprinkle over the glitter and once it's dried completely, stick a gem in the middle. Stick more gems around the outside of the jar, pop on the lid, then tie on a pretty bow and your lovely body scrub jar gift is ready. You could even tie on a small label with 'body scrub' written on it.

Safety: Supervise children when using scissors or a knife, or do the cutting for them.

Brace yourselves, January is coming and you know that means...

Dry January, of course. With every fresh start each year comes a refreshed will to ditch alcohol and become fitter and healthier.

That's fair enough, but is an entire month without a drop of wine really essential? If anything, giving up on the stuff after weeks of very boozy festive celebrations will lead to insanity, which is the opposite of what you're trying to achieve, really.

While we're all for everyone feeling healthier and happier, here are a few reasons why you'll be secretly laughing at everyone attempting Dry January...

1. They'll have to answer A LOT of questions

Oh, they just don't make them like they used to, do they? No, we're not talking about heartthrobs, chocolate bars, or even a good old-fashioned bag of crisps - we're talking about classic shows, TV quiz shows, and 90s game shows in particular!

Now, this is a bold statement, but we think that 90s game shows might just have peaked in the 1990s. Maybe it was the mullets, maybe it was the costumes, maybe it was the incessantly chirpy breed of hosts and their sidekicks (BLOBBY!), but whatever it was, they were SO much better than the shows of today.

1. Robot Wars

Yes, dreams really do come true, because BBC2 rebooted Robot Wars in 2016 for three series! Previously a later addition to the 90s TV schedules, starting in 1998, Craig Charles did a stellar job of commentating whilst Matilda, Sergeant Bash and Sir Killalot battled it out for the win.

We know our kids (and hubbies) weren't the only ones that tried to create their own version with remote control cars and cardboard blades - it might be time to fill out an entry form...

2. The Crystal Maze

Whether the contestants went to the Aztec, Futuristic, Medieval or Ocean zone, you knew you were in for a rollercoaster of emotions with the Crystal Maze, as they either emerged victorious with a gem in hand, or got lost and locked in their game room, possibly forever. The Crystal Dome at the end with the flying gold and silver tokens was the BEST bit - and we still reckon we'd tot up a tidy sum (a real vote of confidence, seeing as only 17 of the show's 83 teams ever ended up winning the grand prize).

Fans were thrilled in 2017 when Channel 4 announced the return of the show hosted by Richard Ayoade. And, because that wasn't enough, a second series was commissioned in 2018. The fresh new revamp was well received, especially when TOWIE's Gemma Collins was team captain for the first episode.

3. Gladiators

Saturday night TV hasn't been the same since this competitive blend of circus skills and wrestling was cancelled. From the lycra uniforms to those giant cotton buds and that excruciating final challenge, The Eliminator, (our calves burn just at the THOUGHT of that Travelator), this was brilliant Saturday night entertainment - and even nowadays, if we're about to start a countdown, we preface it with, 'over to John Anderson'. Due to popular demand, Gladiators made a return in 2008 and 2009 but unfortunately only aired on Sky 1.

4. Blind Date

The late, great Cilla Black presented loads of telly over the years, but we have to say, we think Blind Date is probably our favourite. The romance, the drama, the cringe-inducingly cheesy responses to a potential love match's questions - it was an absolute winner of a formula, where you could win the greatest gameshow prize of all, TRUE LOVE.

The cynics amongst you say that no one ever truly got that, but we'll have you know that there was an actual Blind Date wedding, and they celebrated their 20-year anniversary in 2011!

But hold your horses as there are rumours Blind Date is  making a comeback with a modern-day reboot, featuring dating apps, social media and differing sexual orientations.

5. Noel's House Party

Altogether now, 'BLOBBY!' Noel's House Party was all about fun and frolics in the fictional town of Crinkley Bottom. Contests included the Lyric Game, Grab a Grand and Beat Your Neighbours, interspersed with routine gungings of celebrities, and the infamous 'Gotcha' segment.

In 2018, there were rumours Mr BLOBBY would make a come back but sadly we have yet to see this return to screens.We know Noel's busy with Deal or No Deal now, but surely he could make time for a return visit here as well?

6. Moment of Truth

Another Cilla classic, but this time, contestants weren't competing for 'lurve', they were competing for prizes from Ms. Black's Dream Directory - but could only get their hands on them if they could perform a very specific, difficult task (which, strangely, was almost always plate spinning!).

They'd only have a week to practice, so the pressure was really on - but just think of the cars, holidays or massively clunky 90s TVs they won when they succeeded.

7. Man O Man

Kind of like a 90s gameshow version of modern day classic Take Me Out, Man O Man which aired from 1997-1999, involved a group of 10 men trying to prove their... um... manliness to the audience of women.

If they didn't live up to expectations, they were unceremoniously pushed into a pool, until there was just one man left standing, and he won a motorbike! Fun fact: Nell McAndrew made one of her first TV appearances on the show - only back then, she was known as Tracey.

8. Fort Boyard

If you don't remember Fort Boyard, you missed an absolute gem of a 90s game show. Melinda Messenger and Leslie Grantham, along with 'the Professor', guided contestants around the actual French fort, getting them to complete a series of challenges and collect keys and clues, culminating in an actually insane finale involving a human in a cage and real-life tigers. Crazy, but brilliant. Bring it back, Channel 5 - we'll all watch.

9. You Bet!

For those who need their memories refreshing, You Bet! was the ITV show where a line-up of celebs and the studio audience would bet on the ability of a random member of the public to perform a certain task. Matthew Kelly, of Stars in their Eyes fame, was the host, and it was nail-biting stuff.

10. Don't Try This At Home

In Davina McCall's pre-Big Brother and fitness-DVD days, she fronted this high-stakes game show from 1998 to 2001, alongside Kate Thornton and Paul Hendy.

The idea was similar to You Bet!, but required people to perform more death-defying (sometimes just a bit scary) stunts, like swinging from a bridge, or facing their fear of snakes. It totally lived up to its title, as we didn't want to do any of that at home, but we loved watching other people have a go.

11. Supermarket Sweep

The pic 'n' mix counter, the pricing gun challenge, the bouncy bonuses and of course, those super-stylish pastel team jumpers - we loved everything about Dale Winter's Supermarket Sweep. Back in the 90s, it was our life's dream to run down those aisles filling our trolleys with ironing boards and frozen turkeys, and ticking those crucial items off Dale's shopping list. However, it was a dream that died in September 2001, when the show was cancelled (and before you say it, no, the 2007 revival doesn't count, because it definitely wasn't the same).

However, we were absolutely thrilled when an ITV reboot aired in September 2019 with host Rylan Clark-Neal. Rylan took to Twitter to share his excitement, writing, "Been waiting a while to say this but it’s finally time to GO WILD IN THE AISLES ONCE AGAIN!"

12. Bullseye

Cancelled in 1995, but never forgotten, Bullseye was the show that made us truly believe that we could win a speedboat, if only we practiced our darts-throwing down the local enough times. We have got the interactive DVD game version, but you can't take to the waters on a disk guys.

In 2019 the 90s gameshow was set to make a comeback in a new series Alan Carr's Epic Gameshow. Alan's new show will include rebooted versions of Play Your Cards Right, Strike It Lucky, Bullseye and The Price is Right.

13. Blockbusters

Just glancing at that hexagonal board fills us with nostalgia! The theme tune for this trivia-based game show was amazing, so much so that it was used in this Jaffa Cake advert where those cute little monkeys come out of the tube instead of chocolatey-orange snacks - so if you've found yourself humming it lately, that's probably why...

Because we love it so much, Blockbusters has been revived a whopping four times. The latest series, a comedy-version, premiered on Comedy Central in March 2019 and was hosted by Dara Ó Briain.

14. Blankety Blank

Blankety Blank was actually on air from 1979 to 1990, but revived Lily Savage version (from 1997-99) is the one we're reminiscing about here. Something about the combo of her sassy remarks and the potential for hilarious double entendres just worked.

Returning for a one-off Christmas special  in 2016 hosted by David Walliams, fans are still feeling nostalgic about this show. Paul O'Grady, you're wasted only making shows about dogs, are you sure you don't want to come back and do this too?

15. Wheel of Fortune

Spin the wheel, tot up your points and wait for the cash to start rolling in was the simple premise behind this basic but very addictive 90s game show. It was all plain sailing for Wheel of Fortune contestants - that was, until they spun a 'Lose a Turn', or even worse, a 'Bankrupt'. Oh, the memories!

It's almost been two decades since this 90s game show aired. It was rumoured back in March 2018 that there may be a reboot after former host Jenny Powell the Daily Star Sunday, "I’ve had talks about bringing Wheel of Fortune back. I have actually enquired about who owns the right to the show. I’m working on it." Here's hoping!

Whether your child's school celebrates the end of term with a traditional Christmas nativity play, complete with three wise men and a manger, or goes for something a bit more modern, it's always a time to be proud of your little ones.

Now obviously not everyone can be cast as Mary in the Christmas nativity, but who said the seventh star at the birth of Jesus wasn't equally as important? At least they will all get a moment in the spotlight, right?

However, according to the latest research kids who played the main characters Mary or Joseph in their school Christmas nativity are more likely to be higher earners in the future.

Turns out kids chosen to play Mary are destined for a career in retail, will love practising yoga, and will earn £39,000 a year. And, tots playing Joseph will work in finance earning £38,000 a year and will enjoy shopping.

The study carried out by Virgin Media’s Christmas Stars also found angel Gabriels went on to careers in marketing earning an average of £40,000, while innkeepers raked in £37,000 a year and the oxen a whopping £43,000.

Making your own invitations not only adds a personal touch, but also gives the kids something to do on a rainy day.

Guest pass invites Make each guest feel like a celebrity with one of their very own guest pass invitations. Use a small rectangle piece of gold card and on each one attach either a clip or pin or a piece of string they can tie round their neck. You can write 'Access All Areas' on them along with the rest of the party information. You can also stick hologram stickers of stars on each one to make them look more authentic.

Star invite Make your very own replicas of the stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Cut out star shapes on gold card or buy star shapes already cut out from most stationary shops, such as Staples or WH Smith. Then write the child's name you're inviting on the front and the rest of the party information on the back.

Oscar statue invites These may be a bit tricky to make but they look great and will make each child feel like a true A-list winner. Find a picture of an Oscar statue from the Internet and draw it on a piece of gold paper or card. Cut round the shape and write on the party information. Alternatively, draw the statue on a piece of white paper and let the kids decorate them however they wish. Glitter, sequins and stickers are ideal for these creative invites.

Hollywood party food

With all the fun they'll be having, the Hollywood stars will be getting hungry, so here's our guide to make sure you've covered everything to fill their tummies. From finger buffet food to the birthday cake, our recipes will give you all the inspiration you need.

Birthday cakes In keeping with the American Hollywood party theme, we've got a great recipe to make a Reeses Pieces, a well loved treat by our cousins across the pond!. It looks fab and tastes delicious, so they'll all be wanting a slice. However, you could also try out your own personal design. You could follow one of our Victoria sponge or chocolate cake recipes then customise the top by creating a Hollywood star with your child's name on it in icing.

Cupcakes are also a great addition to the party platter and are sometimes much easier to give to children than slices of cake. We've got a whole host of cupcake recipes you could try. Ice the top of them with a gold glitter or strip of red icing to make it look like a red carpet.

Party food savoury

Homemade mini burgers - these are also a kids' favourite. You could even add a twist and serve them in pitta pockets instead of burger buns.

Funny-face pizzas - great to tempt even the fussiest of eaters. Arrange the toppings to make a star.

Hotdogs - these chilli-dogs will go great with the theme. Offer mustard, ketchup and fried onions to go on top.

Chicken wings - follow this recipe to make them deliciously crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, with a sweet kick!

Party food sweet

Chewy chocolate chip cookies - these classic American-style cookies make great party treats and can look amazing piled high on plates.

Fresh fruit jellies - go for a bright jelly colour such as green and orange to make it more appealing for kids. It's a great way to sneak in a bit of fruit without them realising too!

Marshmallow swizzle sticks - these look so tasty, there definitely won't be any left-overs at the end of the day. Candy floss and popcorn are also great treats for the kids at parties.

Ginger fizz - this bubbly juice tastes delicious. You could even get a star-shaped ice cube tray, put a few cubes in each drink and call it 'Star suprise'.

Milkshakes - A thick and creamy ice cream packed drink is a great treat. If you're brave enough kids would even love helping to make these for themselves. You could get toppings to make a milkshake bar where little ones can customise their own drinks.

Homemade lemonade - A party classic, this sweet and sour fizzy drink always goes down well with kids so make sure you bottle plenty of the stuff before the party starts.

Hollywood party decorations

You've decided on the theme and sent the invites, but on the day it's important you've decorated to help set a real Hollywood scene. It will get the kids (and adults!) more into the glitzy mood.

Ideally, you'd have a red carpet, a stage and microphone and lots of glittering lights to create the perfect scene, but there are much more interesting, cheaper and creative ways of decorating that'll make the party the talk of the town.

Welcome the kids At the front entrance you could have a 'red carpet' ready for all the kids to walk up to reach the front door or back garden (wherever you're hosting the party). This could be made from any cheap red material to give the look of being a carpet but without the expense. You could also have one of the adults at the party stand at the end taking pictures of all the children as they walk the carpet to make it seem as if they're famous - they'll also look great in the party album. When each child arrives at the party, you could give them their own VIP badge, which you can sometimes get from pound stores or make using a cheap badge maker. Alternatively, you can get them to bring along their guest pass invites, which you could stamp when they arrive at the party.

Transform your home or garden Create your very own Hollywood sign out of cut-out letters made from white cardboard and stick it above the door or fireplace in the party room or from a tree in the garden. Then use red satin or cheap red material to drape across the walls and doors of the party area to give it a luxury feel - just like being at an awards ceremony. You could also create a make-shift stage if you're planning on doing any Karaoke competitions or having the kids put on a little play. Use wooden boxes or even just layers of cardboard placed on top of each other - it doesn't have to be high. Cover your tables in cheap red and gold material to give it a glamorous look and then decorate with confetti, sequins or lots of glitter. Mirror balls are also great decorations and give it that extra feel of glitz, as well as hanging door curtains which you can buy from most party suppliers.

Little extras You could make name places for each child out of cardboard squares with a star shape on it and the name of the child in the middle of each one, just like the Hollywood Walk of Fame. You could also buy some small blow-up microphones and award status to decorate the area and give the kids things to play with.

Hollywood party games

There are an endless amount of games you could play to keep the kids entertained during the party. You can add a Hollywood twist to many classic party games, whilst also trying out some new games to keep them on their toes. Here are some of our ideas to get you started.

Pin the award on the winner A twist on the classic 'pin the tail on the donkey' game. Each child gets a chance to try and pin an award statue into the hands of a winner whilst blindfolded - with the closest statue winning. Print out pictures of their favourite celebrities from the Internet to play with.

Pass the statue Just like the classic game of 'pass the parcel', pass a present wrapped in several layers around the circle to music and get the child to rip off a layer of newspaper if they are holding the present when the music stops. If the children are a little older, make it more exciting by getting them to stand in a circle and throw the present underarm to anyone they want to in the circle quickly, like the game 'hot potato'.

Dance off If you've bought some film soundtracks, now's a great time to use them for a game. Get the kids to dance to the music and judge which one does the best or craziest dance moves, then give the winner a small prize.

Sing off This is a great game if you have a karaoke machine or a games console with a sing-along game. Let the kids that want to sing take it in turns to belt out some movie classics such as Celine Dion's 'My Heart Will Go On' from Titanic, then award the best (and worst) with a small prize.

Wink 'movie star' murder Similar to 'wink murder', sit everyone in a circle and choose a 'movie star'. They're sent out of the room whilst you pick a dangerous 'wanted' cowboy who is then the 'murderer'. The movie star returns to the room and stands in the middle of the circle. They must continuously turn around slowly trying to detect the 'murderer' - who winks at people who make eye contact with him and act out a dramatic 'death'. The detective movie star must try and guess who the 'murderer' is before all the celebrities are 'killed'.

Name the star This involves cutting out pictures of famous movie stars and getting the guests to identify them. Split the kids into two or three groups, then give them a page of pictures and tell them to write down who they think they are. The winning team will be the one that gets the most correct answers.

Hollywood party crafts

To give the kids something glamorous to do while they enjoy the party, why not have some craft materials at the ready so they create and take home a memento from the Hollywood party? Here's some of our ideas to get you started.

Paparazzi picture frame This is a great craft idea if you have a polaroid instant camera or a digital camera and a printer. First, make a selection of photo frames using white cardboard, get each child to decorate them with paint, glitter and sequins and then tell them to put on their perfect paparazzi pose while you take their picture. Then once it's printed out, stick it inside the frame, leave to dry and they can take it with them when they leave.

VIP badge These are super fun to make and they can take them away and wear them whenever they want. You will need to have a badge maker with enough badge sets for everyone child to have one, but these can be purchased for relatively little online. The children can decorate their badges with pens, paper and stickers depending on the size and thickness of each badge.

Papier mache award statue This could get a little messy, but it's a fun way of keeping them amused for a bit and they can take something home to remember the party by. To ensure there's not too much mess at the party and that the girls' dresses don't get covered in Papier mache, you could create a set of plain Oscar statues before they arrive. To do this, you will need strips of newspaper, glue and the cardboard bits from inside toilet rolls. You can buy several types of glue from a local craft store or PVA works well too. Cover the cardboard with layers of glue-soaked paper until you get a statue-type form and then leave to dry. Then at the party, get the kids to decorate them using paint, glitter and sequins.

Set of famous handprints You could create a set of handprints just like celebrities do in Hollywood - this would involve buying a pack of pottery clay and some shallow plastic trays you can buy from Wilko or other bits-and-bobs shops. Follow the instructions on the pack to get an easily mouldable consistency, then get each child to place their hands down to get the shape and name each one. You could make individual handprints or a large set.

Whatever their age, make your party an occasion to remember with a 'dress to impress' code. Most girls will have an array of dresses already in their wardrobes they can wear, so that's a great start and boys will look dapper in shirts and bow ties (if they have them!). If you want, you could have a dress colour code of either pink or black, but we think the more colours the better!

Long dresses are best as they tend to be a bit more glamorous, plus you can add some extra glitz to an outfit with some sparkly accessories such as bracelets and necklaces.

For little girls you could always make an award-worthy dress using material from a fabric store. Any material that's shiny or has sequins on it will look great with a full skirt made from tutu material. Alternatively, most supermarket clothes sections, party stores and other clothes shops will sell party dresses that you can pick up for a relatively cheap price. Feather boas, sashes and tiaras are also good accessories to make the party girl stand out from the crowd.

Hollywood party bags

Party bags aren't essential, but they do make nice little treats for each child to take home at the end of the day, and they can be made on a budget.

The bags don't necessarily have to be Hollywood-themed - but cardboard popcorn buckets make a nice twist on the classic bags. Include cheap toys you can buy in bulk such as bead necklaces, a small make-up set, small mirrors and beaded purses for little girls (these may vary slightly depending on the age of the party guests).Then you could add all the treats children love such as small sweets, chocolate bars, gold coins, lollipops, sherbet sticks or chewy sweets as well as a piece of the birthday cake. Slicing up the main cake may be an issue if there's not enough to go round, so you could always give each child a cupcake to take home instead.

The pressure, the nerves, the timetable, the revision... exams can definitely be tough - but not for these particular kids.

Puzzled by the lack of felines in the police force, five-year-old Eliza Adamson-Hopper sent a letter to Durham Police explaining why cats would be just as useful as dogs in fighting crime.

The response to her adorable letter came from Chief Constable Michael Barton, a fellow cat lover, who said he was going to speak to the inspector in charge of police dogs about her 'good idea'. We're sure cats will be pleased to hear they'll have to work alongside dogs soon...

Every year a new list of 'naughty' names is revealed - and we wince as we see our carefully-chosen names make the cut.

Every year School Stickers put together a 'naughty' and 'nice' list which is just a bit of Christmas fun, based on which names come up most - and least - when schools give out reward stickers for good behaviour and achievement. The 2018 list will be published at the end of November 2018.

Last year, once again School Stickers came up with a list of the naughtiest and nicest names, just in time for Christmas. The 2017 nicest and naughtiest kids' names lists were based on 52,000 different students who received over 600,000 rewards (well done everyone!)

Analysis on the data revealed which names were awarded the most stickers (who made the nicest list) and which were awarded the least – and therefore named the naughtiest for 2017!

Although your darling children weren't actually raised by wolves in the Ugandan rainforest, sometimes you can't help but think they're a little more – well, wild – than you'd like them to be.

Orderly journeys on public transport and eating with a knife and fork are luxuries that you, the (proud) mum of feral kids, can only dream of. And though you know that all children are a handful, searching for straitjackets on eBay was probably the point that you knew yours were on another level.

But still, you wouldn't have them any other way, right?

1. The school gates are a war zone

Your kid gets into trouble a lot at school, sure, but having the other mums see how horrible they're being when you drop them off in the morning is somewhat excruciating.

2. Your kids climb more than they walk

You thought – reasonably enough – that crawling would just be a phase in their development. And though they can walk upright for special occasions (namely weddings and christenings), their philosophy of 'the whole world's a climbing frame' means they spend the vast majority of time with their feet off the ground.

3. You own a leash and you aren't afraid to use it

Okay, so the straitjacket incident was a moment of madness (and awkward as hell to explain to hubby when he walked in), but you have no qualms about harnessing and tethering your child when you're out about, just to be sure they don't set fire to anything.

4. Judging stares and tutting strangers are basically white noise to you

You're sure they're all perfect parents with perfect little angels. Their snobbery is like water off a duck's back.

5. You're still not sure they always wipe their bum after using the loo

Potty training was THE WORST – but you're not going to continue supervising them into their fourth, fifth years and beyond; they've had that. Those incriminating marks on their pants will continue to be ignored.

6. You steer clear of mum pals unless they also parent feral children

Coincidentally, your child also attracts other feral children, and so play dates can only really be supervised by experienced troopers. God forbid they pee on Lilly's mums geraniums (again).

Whether you've got a dog, a cat, or just a few slugs in the back garden, your child seems to get on way better with them than other kids – once you finally managed to teach them that slugs are not food, anyway.

And it's almost not worth the inevitable, Richter-scale tantrum that goes with it. You've considered shaving their heads as the sane, rational solution.

9. You sometimes forget that they weren't actually born with soot-black soles on their feet

Shoes, poos! Your child has no time for footwear and since they love nothing more than playing in dirt, you haven't seen clean feet in many months. The absence of regular bath times, too, means actually getting them clean is no mean feat.

10. There is not a single item in your child's wardrobe that doesn't have a hole or a permanent stain on it

You're hoping by the time they turn 18 you'll be able to buy them a pair of jeans that lasts longer than two weeks.

11. You know you shouldn't say it, but you find non-feral children boring

Unpeeling them from the chandeliers is a small price to pay for offspring who offer endless giggles, a new lesson every day and inspire you to enjoy that same zest for life as they do. You'd be rubbish as a smug mum of little angels – it wouldn't be half so much fun.

It's great to watch our kids play with toys. But while we love watching their eyes light up when they get a new toy, sometimes it can go badly, BADLY wrong.

Whether the toy is making a questionable noise, or looks very different to what it said on the advert, every now and again we come across toys that are (unintentionally) a little bit rude!

While your children probably won't understand just why mum or dad are laughing so much, sometimes their toys are a little more ‘grown-up' than they think!

Bim Bim might look adorable, but the squirrel toy makes a VERY questionable noise while actually vibrating. Your kids might not think it's rude, but we can't stop laughing at it!

3. This questionable sausage toy

Silly sausage is a reactionary game for anyone aged seven and over. The giant sausage gives you five commands including ‘Twist Me' ‘Stretch Me' ‘Poke Me' ‘Shake Me' and Dip Me'. We're saying nothing...

4. Tarzan's hand is a bit misplaced.

A new study has revealed the top 20 ways that parents gross out their kids.

The research, commissioned by animated comedy Scream Street for the launch of the show's new episodes on CBBC, shows that there are a variety of daily activities that grown ups can use to embarrass their offspring, from eating certain foods to playing cringey music.

The top three results were kissing them at the school gates, telling them off in public and wiping food off their face - which we're sure ALL parents are guilty of from time to time.

Some of the other results, however, were more surprising - who knew eating sushi and drinking wine was grossing kids out quite so much?!

The research also found that dads are typically more embarrassing than mums, and one third of the children said that they wished their parents would be a little less gross.

The good news is that 9 out of 10 of the 1,300 six to 13 years olds surveyed still find their parents funny, showing that gross out humour is a great way to bond.

A spokesperson for Scream Street said: 'This study clearly shows that UK families have great fun grossing each other out, and that no matter your age, parent or child, being gross is universally funny.'

'Gross-out humour and silly antics will always be hilarious and it's great to find out how much fun the UK's families are having together – especially when they're grossing each other out.'

Being a mum is a full time job. It lasts for life with no pay and is pretty much 24-7.

Whether you're a stay at home mum or you went back to work, the important thing is that it's your decision and no one else's. Grans and grandchildren will always have a very special relationship. From the hand-made presents to the sweet treats, the kids always look forward to a trip to grandmas.

But letting Gran spoil the kids might actually be having an affect as a new report found that over half (52 per cent) of British children ‘prefer' their granny to other family members.

Over 1,600 mums took part in the study, which found that thanks to busy lives and hectic work schedules, grandparents have an even bigger influence in family life.

While grandmas can be lifesavers when it comes to watching the kids every now and again, the results found that they're now having an even bigger imapact. Almost 1 in 3 of the mums that took part said they felt hurt when their children admitted to preferring their mum's mum....or even their mother-in-law.

But there's no need for mums to feel worried, as Faye Mingo from the website familiesonline.co.uk, who commissioned the study, said: 'It's great news for grandmothers that children enjoy their company so much. The bond between grandparents and grandchildren can be very special, however mums need not feel worried or threatened by it at all."

We know that mums will always have a special bond with their children, and nothing will take that away. However, we've rounded up some of the signs that mean your kids might sometimes prefer their Gran to their mum.

Alina Ramirez, a high school student in California, has shared an adorable '101 ways to deal with stress list' that her class teacher gave her and fellow pupils on Twitter.

Teacher Brett Philips has been winning praise from students and parents from around the globe after sharing the sweet list with his class to stop them getting stressed at this school year.

He gave the list, which has a mix of practical advice and fun ideas, to remind students to not take life too seriously.

Brett's 101 tips vary from 'getting up 15 minutes earlier' and always 'be prepared for rain' to 'buy yourself a flower' and have 'a bubble bath' - and our personal favourite 'Tickle a baby!'

Alina tweeted her appreciation, saying, 'My psychology teacher gave us this paper on how to cope with stress and thought I'd share it 😊' and even highlighted some of her favourite ideas which included, 'believe in yourself' and 'look up at the stars.'

We love kids' movies and books for many reasons, but if we're honest, it's mainly because we can't resist a good innuendo.

Shrek in particular deserves an honourable mention, but pretty much all kids' films or books are created with humorous pity for the poor adults who have to sit through them. While we adore lovable characters like Dory in her own right, we can't deny that it's the double entendres that make kids' films and books not only bearable, but brilliant!

The first day back to school is always a mixture of emotions - you're most likely super relieved to pack the kids off to school again, but you're also a little (okay, very) sad that they're another year older and more independent than ever.

Getting back into the full swing of the school routine takes some serious effort each September for every parent, but some handle their moment on the first day a little differently to others!

Real talk: it's hard being the middle child.

Anyone with middle child syndrome will know the difficulty of being the sibling stuck in-between. You're too young to be the one in charge with all the responsibility, but you're too old to be the cute baby who's completely spoiled by mum and dad.

Some days you just don't get time to make a nutritional, well-balanced dinner for the kids. And one woman is celebrating these dinner time fails by posting the meals she makes for her kids on Instagram.

Jessica Rowe, an Australia TV presenter and journalist, has been sharing photos of her children's dinners for the last few months with #craphousewife.

Her pictures include spaghetti from a can, takeaway pizza, spaghetti Bolognese and baking fails.

In a refreshing twist on the usual social media perfection, the TV presenter shares the unedited pictures of the dinners to her 30,000 followers - and they're loving her honesty.

When Jessica recently shared a picture of a home made dinner of shepherd's pie, some of her followers applauded her for her traditional home cooking, with one follower saying: ‘So nice to see a photo of real every day food that hasn't been tarted up!'

Other followers agreed that her 'honest' pictures were eye opening and also started to share their dinner fails with her.

Parents all over the world have been finding a unique way to pass the time while their kids are asleep. And surprisingly, it's with their children's cereal.

The #CheerioChallenge is picking up steam on social media. And it's certainly making us want to give it a try for ourselves! Started by Patrick Quinn - creator of the Life of Dad social network, the Cheerio Challenge is when you pile up Cheerios on your son or daughter's face, while they're sleeping. Naturally.

Last week Patrick managed to pile up an impressive five Cheerios on his son's nose and challenged the rest of his social media followers to do better. Cheerio fans went crazy attempting to beat him, while using the #CheerioChallenge hashtag.

Buzzfeed reported on Friday that the record was a staggering 16 Cheerios, held by two dads who stacked up the popular cereal on their babies noses. However, many have since surpassed this. Life of Dad user Craig Stanley managed 17 Cheerios, claiming: 'Challenge accepted. 17 Cheerios and 17 hours in the making / photo capture!! #CheerioChallenge'

Those without children have got involved too, with people stacking Cheerios on their dogs noses.

And children have even started to get their own back on unaware parents when they're sleeping by piling up Cheerios on their noses too.

Fans of the Life of Dad Facebook group think the social media challenge is great, with comments such as 'This is the best ever challenge to be on social media' and 'Can't wait for my son to fall asleep - I've got the Cheerios ready'. Life of Dad have been updating their followers on Facebook throughout the weekend with as many pictures as possible of parents attempts.

Creating nutritionally-balanced, organic, homemade baby food for your little one is a real labour of love, but totally worth it, right?

Well, no, actually.

Instead of eating up every bit of your specially-prepared meals, there's a tonne of other 'exotic' things they would much rather be eating.

From baby lotion to crayons, floor food to car seat debris, your little one has acquired a taste for the unusual, and what you serve them up at dinner just isn't good enough anymore.

They want colour, they want vibrancy – heck, they want what the dog is eating and if they don't get it, you're going to hear all about it that's for sure!

From Neville and Ginny to the star of the eight-film series, Daniel Radcliffe himself, we take a trip down memory lane to see what the child stars of Harry Potter are up to now - you might not even recognise some of them...

Harry Melling (Dudley Dursley)

Harry played Harry (Potter's) portly, bullying cousin Dudley, but once filming had finished he undertook a mission to slim down, reportedly going from 16st to 11st 5lb through diet and exercise changes - including cutting out his beloved Toffee Crisps! Although he's had a few minor on-screen roles, Harry is now a keen theatre actor, starring in productions like King Lear and The Angry Brigade.

Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood)

After playing slightly-loopy-but-totally-lovable Luna, Evanna went on to continue acting, with roles in TV's Sinbad and the teen comedy G.B.F, amongst others, but her path wasn't as clear-cut as some others. Evanna was hospitalised for anorexia nervosa at age 11, at around the same time as the launch of the fifth Harry Potter book in 2003. Her love for the franchise was so strong that her family consulted with the book's publisher and the hospital and she was allowed to leave for an hour and collect a signed copy of the book - and it was this obsession with Harry Potter that eventually led her to land the role of Luna at an open audition. As such, she has since used used her fame to help promote healthy self-esteem and body image in young girls.

Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter)

Daniel was just 11 years old when he was cast in the role that would change his life forever. Since Harry Potter ended (does it ever truly end?) he's starred in plays and a number of Hollywood films, including The Woman in Black and Horns. His next on-screen appearance will be in the role of Igor in the upcoming film Victor Frankenstein. Daniel now lives in Lower Manhattan in New York with girlfriend Erin Darke, also an actress and Daniel is set to become a first-time dad.

Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley)

Rupert, who played Harry's loyal sidekick Ron from 2001 to 2011, left school at 16, and has enjoyed a successful, if not slightly low-key, acting career ever since. His list of filmography includes hits like Wild Target, Cherrybomb and Driving Lessons, and he even voiced a character in an animated feature-length remake of children's classic Postman Pat! Rupert is known for keeping his private life very private, but it is thought that he is currently in a relationship.

Emma Watson (Hermione Granger)

Emma Watson's career has soared since she took the role of Hermione Granger in 2001. Since the franchise ended, she's added a string of acting roles to her name, including The Perks of Being a Wallflower, The Bling Ring and Noah, as well as modelling for brands like Burberry - not to mention getting her degree in English Literature from Brown University. Next up is the live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast, where Emma will play the main character, Belle. Emma also considers herself a feminist and has become a well-known campaigner for women's rights, a reputation sparked by her now infamous 'HeforShe' speech at the UN in 2014.

Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy)

Looking at that butter-wouldn't-melt face on the left, it's hard to believe that Tom played Harry's nemesis, Draco Malfoy, in all eight films. Now 27, Tom is best known outside of the franchise for his role in Rise of the Planet of the Apes in 2011, but also recently harked back to his roots with the BBC3 documentary Meet the Superfans, where he interviewed some of the world's most dedicated fans of films and TV shows - including Harry Potter. He is often pictured with his long-term girlfriend, Jade Olivia, who he has been dating for seven years.

Bonnie Wright (Ginny Weasley)

She rose to the public eye playing Ron's younger sister, and Harry's eventual love interest, but Bonnie has a number of other talents up her sleeve too. In 2012, she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree, and has also appeared on the Comic Relief Bake Off, where she was named Star Baker (which is certainly no mean feat!). Like Emma Watson, Bonnie has done some modelling post-Potter, and has now turned her attention to developing her skills behind the camera; pursuing screenwriting, directing and producing.

James and Oliver Phelps (Fred and George Weasley)

First things first - we can't believe that these two are no longer sporting the signature Weasley-red mane! The twins have not undertaken any similar high-profile acting roles since Harry Potter ended, but are known to be particularly big fans of golf and music, and are often snapped attending music festivals like V Festival and Download. They now split their time between their home in England and America, where they hope to further their film careers.

Matthew Lewis (Neville Longbottom)

Matthew is one of the Harry Potter stars that has been pictured most in the press since the series ended - predominantly due to his remarkable transformation from goofy schoolboy to, well, fully-fledged hunk (a reputation that was sealed by his underwear-only Attitude magazine photoshoot in May 2015). When he's not fending off the attention of devoted followers, Matthew takes on a lot of TV work, including BBC3's Bluestone 42 and Death in Paradise.

Jessie Cave (Lavender Brown)

Jessie made her debut in the Harry Potter films in 'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince', and whilst she dazzled as Lavender, she now balances her occasional acting roles with a quieter life as an illustrator, having recently published her first comic book, entitled 'Lovesick'. She is now also a mum-of-one, and frequently posts (adorable!) pictures of herself and her son on her social media accounts.

Katie Leung (Cho Chang)

Aw, Harry's first girlfriend is all grown up! After her role as Cho, Katie was unsure if she wanted to continue acting, but has since held roles in both theatre and TV productions, including the Channel 4 drama Run. She has also retrained in acting at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow this autumn, a project she completed while also persuing her other passion for art and photography.

Afshan Azad (Padma Patil)

Image: Instagram/Afshan Azad Afshan has caused a stir on social media recently, after sharing some stunning selfies on her Instagram account (like the one on the right) that show she's not the little lady that Ron Weasley took to the Yule Ball anymore! The actress is now based in Manchester and frequently posts pictures of herself shopping and on nights out with friends - sounds like a typical 27-year-old to us!

Shefali Chowdhury (Parvarti Patil)

Padma's on-screen twin sister, Shefali, has been much less active online that Afshan, and her only acting credits thus far, aside from a short film in 2015, have been in Harry Potter. However, it seems like she may have chosen to concentrate on her education instead of her film career, as she now has a degree from Birmingham City University.

Devon Murray (Seamus Finnigan)

Before he played Harry's fellow Gryffindor, Seamus, (a character who was, in his own words, 'The Silly Irish Guy Who Kept Blowing Up :-)') Devon had already starred in productions including This is my Father and Angela's Ashes. However, post-Potter, he's not had any major film or TV roles. Fingers crossed there'll be something in the pipeline for him soon...

Alfred Enoch (Dean Thomas)

Alfred, now 26, has turned his hand to TV acting since his role as Harry's friend Dean Thomas. He's starred in the ABC legal series 'How to Get Away with Murder', as well as having single episode roles in Sherlock and Broadchurch. Like many of his co-stars, he's also dabbled in stage acting.

Clémence Poésy (Fleur Delacour)

With a face this beautiful, it's unsurprising that Clémence did a lot of modelling after her role as Fleur, from brands as diverse as Gap to Chloé. She's also been in a number of subsequent films, including In Bruges, alongside fellow Harry Potter stars Brendan Gleeson (Mad-Eye Moody) and Ralph Fiennes (Lord Voldemort). Her next movie in the pipeline is called 'The Ones Below'. Although you wouldn't think it to look at her, Clémence is one of the eldest Harry Potter actresses, and is already 32 years old!

There's no question all parents love their kids equally, but when it comes to raising them, things can be quite different after you've already done the parenting thing once...

Expecting your first child is an exciting time. Everything's new - emotions, experiences, knowledge... It can be a whirlwind. But when the second one comes along - well, not so much.

You still love them just the same, but you're so much more experienced the second time around. You're also much more exhausted because you're already caring for another child that your parenting style might become a bit more - how de we put this - practical.

1. Pregnancy announcement

First child: You watched countless clever pregnancy announcements videos on YouTube, read about the most original ways to break the news to your family, and perhaps even attempted a viral video if in recent years.

Second child: You blurted it out right after something completely unrelated. 'Are we still on for Zumba on Sunday? Oh yeah, I'm pregnant by the way.' Fletchers, who has the time?

2. How your family and friends react to the news

3. Choosing the baby's name

First child: You read lists and lists of baby names, researched their meaning, made sure neither you nor your partner had any exes with the same name, came up with a shortlist, had long discussions to pick the top three and then finally settled on one.

First child: You bought the most elaborate baby-proofing products to keep drawers shut, doors locked, make baths safe... Once you finished, you could barely get around the house yourself.

6. The menu

First child: All homemade with organic and locally-sourced produce. Sugary treats were the devil and you would never feed your kid that.

Second child: There you go sweetheart, here's a KitKat.

7. Trying to soothe them

8. Recording the important moments

First child: You recorded and kept everything, quite literally - from videotaping the first fake words (no, oohmmuduyo is not a word) to keeping the identification band they gave you at the hospital.

9. The first time they got ill
