This classic Mexican Margarita cocktail is a refreshing iced blend of tequila, triple sec and lime juice.

To serve it up with a really professional feel, frost the glass around the rim with lime juice and a layer of salt. This gives a lovely sharp saltiness to each sip. Triple sec is an orange-flavoured liqueur sometimes called Curacao but you can use Cointreau or Grand Marnier instead. For a colourful blue Margarita use blue Curacao. Serve garnished with a wedge or slice of fresh lime or a twist of lime peel. Being Mexican, this is a great cocktail to serve with sharer platters like nachos or tortillas.

Top tip for making this Margarita cocktail

How do you frost a glass with salt?

Pour a small amount of salt into a saucer larger than the rim of the glass. Use a wedge of lime to dampen the rim of the glass then dip it into the salt. If you prefer a less pronounced saltiness, dip only half the glass rim into the salt.

How can you make this into a frozen Margarita?

To make a frozen Margarita process the crushed iced, tequila, triple sec and lime juice in a blender until slushy. Pour into the glass (without the ice cubes).
