Faye M Smith

Senior Health and Lifestyle Writer

Faye M Smith is a Senior Health And Lifestyle writer working across Woman & Home, Feel Good You, Woman’s Own and Woman magazine.

Having gained an NCTJ postgraduate diploma, Faye has worked for 15 years in journalism, covering a range of lifestyle topics for companies including the BBC, Press Association, News UK and Hachette.

Even at the start of her career she was drawn to health and fitness journalism. And never one to shy away from a challenge, over the years, Faye has taken part in a power breathing class in the middle of an Itsu, jumped in with a team of synchronised swimmers for a very wet workout, discovered how many calories you can burn doing an indoor skydive and even hooked herself up to a vitamin-filled IV drip all in the name of research. And, with only one of these ending up with a trip to A&E, that’s not bad going!

In more glamorous surroundings, Faye’s chatted all things health with cover stars including Lorraine Kelly, Gabby Logan, Rochelle Humes, Julia Bradbury and Lisa Snowdon for Fit & Well. Here, Faye’s work specialised in women getting into shape at different life stages, including post-birth and during the menopause.

Faye was also previously the sex columnist for Now magazine where, each week, she was passionate about pushing the boundaries of topics that were often seen as taboo, as she firmly believes that a healthy sex life helps your overall wellbeing. Due to this, Faye has regularly written features on how to get the spark back into relationships or how to feel sexier in your own body, especially for women who are going through the menopause.

With a strong desire to discover the truth behind health fads, Faye has reported on developing health trends, such as veganism, DNA diets and quitting sugar, to see if they really are healthy options for our readers. Plus, having also worked as a chief sub, Faye’s past career means not only is she familiar with subjects such as eczema, Alzheimer’s and claustrophobia, but she can spell them – just!

When not in the office, you may have spotted Faye in the background of Holby City or being a performer with Danny Boyle’s London 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony but, most probably, enjoying a cocktail or two while sailing the high seas on a cruise.
