Rosemary Shrager

Celebrity chef and TV presenter

Rosemary Shrager is a highly-acclaimed British TV chef, restaurateur, and writer. Rosemary like many did not start off her culinary journey straight away, training in architecture at Northwich School of art and design and Heatherley School of fine art and moving on to become an interior designer. In her early 20s, cooking was just her hobby and she enjoyed doing it after a long day at work. When she hit a dead end and became bored of her career, she knew it was time to make her beloved hobby her job.

From 1998 to 2002, Rosemary started her chef journey at Amhunnsuidhe castle and enrolled in a cookery course, and published her first official cookbook in this period. With a passion and drive to make a name in the cooking industry, Rosemary's TV career took off when she hosted her own cookery series called 'Rosemary Shrager School for Cooks', where ten contestants competed for the opportunity to work in a Michelin star restaurant. Soon after this, she made appearances in The Girls of Hedsor Hall, Royal Upstairs Downstairs, What's Cooking?, The Real Marigold Hotel, Chopping Block, Culinary Genius as well as being a contestant on one of Britain's favourite shows I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here.

In terms of her cooking, many of Rosemary's dishes have been centered around her love for cooking for her family and friends. Rosemary married her husband Michael, who worked as a barrister at the time, at the young age of 21. They have had two children together called Kate Shrager and Tom Shrager and now have a grandson too, named Freddie. Sadly her husband passed away in 2020, just a few weeks prior to her mother.

Although losing her husband and mum has bought a lot of sadness, chef Rosemary has tried to reduce her loneliness and pain by giving back to Alzheimer’s community by baking cupcakes. She's even organized an initiative on cupcake day, where she asked her followers to bake or cook something and help the Alzheimer’s Society in any way they could. This is a cause close to her heart, as her mother suffered from dementia. Rosemary now loves spending time with her children and grandchildren and cooking for them as well as imparting her knowledge in books and columns for certain publications. At the heart of all Rosemary's dishes are family and comfort, if you like the sound of them, check out our Rosemary Shrager recipes.
