  • Aston Merrygold has opened up about the moment he went into panic when he noticed milk spots on his son Grayson.

Like many new parents, singer Aston Merrygold has found the journey into parenthood a complete whirlwind of emotions.

Although Aston says he has become a natural since he and his fiancee Sarah Lou Richards welcomed baby Grayson to the world in January, he reveals he has experienced a moment of panic.

Speaking to Fabulous magazine, Aston said: ‘It’s amazing. Sometimes I feel bad saying it, but it feels completely natural. Before Grayson came along I was apprehensive. There’s no training, you hear stories and advice and then a baby turns up.’

The new dad added: ‘A few days before he got here we were saying, “This is actually mad. What if we forget stuff or mess up?” But then the baby comes, and that instinct kicks in.’

This was most noticeable when he spotted some strange marks on Grayson’s face. The little dots are known as milk spots and are very common.

Speaking about how he and Sarah dealt with the situation Aston said: ‘We were shocked by milk spots. It was a little bit of a panic. At first we were like, “Does every baby get these?” but it was just a body change.’

He continued: ‘He was being fed different things so it was only natural for him to react like that – our bodies react like that when we’re older. I asked my mum and friends but they said everyone gets them.’

Milk spots are sometimes referred to as milia and are tiny white spots that develop on the baby’s eyes, cheeks, nose and forehead. According to the NHS roughly half of all newborn babies develop milkspots. They are blocked pores which usually clear in the first four weeks of life.

Despite this little wobble, he and Sarah are adapting to their new roles with ease says Aston, but cannot believe where the time has gone.

Aston said: ‘The past seven weeks has flown by. It’s been really comfortable and natural. You hear a lot of negative stories, like sleepless nights – but he sleeps really well and feeds well.

‘He’s a good kid, when he needs changing we change him, when he needs feeding we feed him, when he’s tired we put him to bed, we’ve just gone with the flow. It works for us.’
