Mark described the news as the ‘proudest moment’ of both of their lives, in a heartfelt caption which read:

‘Thanks for all the Birthday wishes everyone!! 🎂 🎂 🎂

It really makes this my most special birthday EVER to let everyone know that later this year we will become Dads for the first time. This is the proudest moment of our lives and we are beyond excited to say it out loud! 🌈👶🏻❤ M&Cx’

Turns out there were double celebrations for Mark as he announced the baby news on his 39th birthday, giving him plenty to smile about!

Mark and Cailean are also planning to get married in the summer, after their engagement in February and six years as a couple. For a while Cailean’s identity was kept secret, as Mark explained he was ‘quite shy about coming to the red carpet’.

It seemed the pair were eager to become parents too, with Mark speaking back in 2017 about their desire to have a baby: ‘I am looking into all the options and obviously it is a little more complex for a gay couple than a heterosexual couple because they can just do it- literally

I am more ready now than I ever have been, I have never felt more eager and broody’.

Fans were quick to flock to the Instagram post to offer messages of congratulations.

‘Such lovely news, congratulations both 💖💙’ said one user.

Another said: ‘You guys will be the best parents ever. Congrats ❤🌈’

We’re very excited for the couple, and can’t wait to find out more about the baby over the coming months!
