Giovanna Fletcher is backing a new campaign from baby loss charity Tommy's which aims to break the taboo around baby loss and encourage people to share their experiences.

Mum-of-two Giovanna is pregnant with her third child but has always been honest an open about the affect her miscarriage in 2012 had and continues to have on her.

In the UK one in four pregnancies will end in miscarriage, stillbirth or premature birth. It is an emotionally and physically exhausting time for the expectant parents, yet many feel the need to grieve in silence.

Taking to Instagram to explain why she is backing the campaign, Giovanna reiterates that when she lost her first baby is was a time of loneliness, heartache and confusion.

Writing alongside a caption of one of Tommy's 'Together For Change' campaign videos Giovanna wrote: 'Even though I’m part of this campaign and knew Tommy’s would do amazing work editing great content together, this video still made me sob.

'As have all the other videos they’ve created with people, like myself, who’ve gone through baby loss. Miscarriage. Still birth. Babies born too soon... it’s heartbreaking to think about it, but we must learn to talk about it.'

She continued: 'Too many people suffer in silence and shutting it out won’t help the pain of 1 in 4 who end up unable to take their babies home with them. Back in 2012 I suffered a miscarriage. I was completely lost. I felt like such a failure.

'I had all these dreams of being a mum and they simply vanished with one scan. I wish I had known how to talk about it, but, for me, it was the loneliness grief. The heartache will always be a part of me, even though I feel so blessed to have my boys as my silver linings.'

Giovanna has urged her followers to watch the videos from Tommy's and to share their own stories to create a wider discussion about baby loss. She finished her post with the strong yet simple line: 'There is no shame in baby loss.'

The 'Together for Change' campaign hopes to bring all those who have suffered loss together online to connect and share their experiences. Talking about it helps you to support each other and sharing your experiences shows the scope of people affected.

To share your story use the hashtag #TogetherForChange and head to www.tommys.org to join the baby loss forum.
