  • Morning chat show host Lorraine Kelly has come under fire for not only prematurely promoting Christmas spending, but for pushing a toy that costs nearly £300.

On Tuesday’s segment of Lorraine on ITV you might well have needed to take a double take and question what was in your morning coffee.

Viewers tuning into the show that airs weekdays from 8.30am would have seen Lorraine alongside resident fashion expert Mark Heyes, sitting in front of a back drop of fir trees and the jingle of Mariah Carey’s classic Christmas hit – All I Want For Christmas.

Lorraine was showing off what punters are predicting as the Christmas toy for 2018. The toy in question is an electric unicorn named My Lovely Unicorn Electric Rider.

The toy is designed for children aged three-years-old and above and can be purchased from Argos. The My Lovely Unicorn has different gears for moving forwards and backwards as well as different hair accessories and a flashing horn.

Although the toy looks very fancy, and definitely something any little unicorn-lover would go crazy for, several parents have taken to Twitter to express their frustration that such high-end gifts were being promoted on the show.

One person wrote: ‘Wrong thing [on] every level …. shame on you’.

Another said: ‘It’s super cute . Very expensive though! I’d rather invest in a laptop that lasts years at that price.’

A third exclaimed: ‘@Lorraine well you just made sure the Unicorn sells. What a #SellOut. It’s bad enough to put pressure on people with ads too early but this !! How many payday loans have you just solicited? When did UR show become the Shopping Channel?’

Do you think it’s too early to be talking Christmas gifts and was it irresponsibly of the Lorraine show to promote such an expensive gift? Let us know your thoughts over on our Facebook page!
