Prince William to teach Prince George to call 999 after attending the Pride of Britain Awards

  • Prince George will soon learn the importance of dialling 999 in an emergency, after Prince William met with brave youngsters who inspired him to teach his own children what to do in a crisis.

    Prince William attended the Pride of Britain Awards to present a special award to the Emergency Services and to also give two Special Recognition Awards to deserving winners.

    As well as his presenting duties on stage, Prince William was also took the opportunity to meet some of the people being honoured with awards during the evening.

    Talking to four-year-old Suzie McCash, who saved her mum’s life by calling 999, Prince William revealed that although his son Prince George is the same age as her and started school last month, he wouldn’t know what to do in an emergency like she did.

    ‘I have a four-year-old called George and if I gave him a telephone I do not know what he would do,’ William said whilst kneeling down to chat to Suzie.

    ‘I’m going to have a conversation with my George about what to do because of what you’ve done,’ William continued, revealing that he will teach George the importance of calling 999 in an emergency.

    ‘You’re so grown-up and you’re very brave,’ William told Suzie. He also added that little Princess Charlotte loves to wear pretty dresses, and so would admire the youngster’s outfit for the evening.

    ‘You’ve got a very pretty dress,’ Prince William said. ‘My Charlotte would like your dress.’

    During the evening Prince William also honoured Britain’s emergency services, and gave a speech where he stressed the importance of remembering the vital work the emergency services do on a daily basis.

    ‘We should all take a moment to understand and appreciate all emergency services personnel and what they achieve in their communities,’ William said in his emotional speech.

    The Pride of Britain will be broadcast on ITV on the 7th November for people at home to watch.
