Shoppers slam £3.99 scales for being 'pro-eating disorder'
The scales, for sale in B&M Bargains, read 'Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels'.
Shoppers have criticised a set of scales for sale in a discount shop by accusing them of promoting eating disorders.
The weighing scales, which were on sale for £3.99 in B&M Bargains, feature a slogan which reads 'Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels' - a quote which is said to have originated from a 2009 interview with model Kate Moss conducted by fashion news website WWD.
'There are loads of mottos. There's "Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels". That's one of them. You try and remember but it never works,' Kate reportedly said at the time.
Twitter user @meganharts posted a picture of the product on her feed, writing alongside, 'Shoutout to B&M Bargains for using pro-eating disorder propaganda on their products. How nice and considerate'.
She continued, '@bmstores This is incredibly irresponsible and quite disgusting. You should be ashamed.'
Others were quick to agree with Megan. @ladyjadeite94 wrote: 'Horrific pro-anorexia slogan on scales sold by @bmstores is #disgusting. Any comments? Should be removed from sale', to which @LucePearsonx3 replied '@ladyjadeite94 @bmstores I saw this and was mortified... This just teaches young children that no body shape is ok except skinny.. '
@Rsmithx83 added '@bmstores I won't ever step foot in your shops again after seeing this #compleatlyirresponsible'

However, some users suggested that the scales weren't as offensive as others had perceived.
'@bmstores People are very easily offended these days! I'm chubby and couldn't care less,' said @lindseystuart85.
In response to the controversy, a B&M spokesperson said: 'We have asked the supplier to withdraw this particular quotation from this range of novelty £3.99 weighing scales', and the brand were quick to respond to the criticism from Twitter commenters with the same statement.
