Davina McCall has sparked debate on social media after sharing a bikini selfie on Instagram.
The mum-of-three – who recently announced she was splitting from her husband of 17 years, Matthew Robertson – took to social media to share a picture of herself wearing a bikini, alongside an inspirational message for anyone who wants to get fitter and healthier.
The 50-year-old wrote: ‘Hi. It is the beginning of the summer . And this is a 👙 selfie. And it probably won’t be the last . No apologies. Because I cannot quite believe I am posting pictures of myself in bikinis still 😃I get asked all the time how many times I work out a week 💪🏻. 3 times minimum … 4 ideally.. 45 mins to an hour.
‘Can’t run at the mo so I do a mixture strength and cardio … i have so much to be grateful for… my kids are number one but right behind them at no 2 is how my fitness journey has made me feel . If I’m groggy, sluggish, negative it always sorts me out … if you are starting … start slow.. set small goals.. achievable goals.. you will get to where you want to be. I did. And if I did. ( after years of yo-yo dieting and binge exercise) You can. #ownyourgoals #fitness #motivation’.
Many of the TV star’s fans were quick to gush about how great the mum looks, congratulating her for sticking to her fitness goals.
One said: ‘Well I would like to say. Davina you have always looked amazing. I’m 46 and struggle with my weight. I just wish I had your determination and strength. Well done 😘’.
Another wrote: ‘You look phenomenal keep posting these selfies, you must work so hard to maintain this type of conditioning, well done 👍🏼’.
However, despite many having a positive reaction to the selfie, it also sparked debate as some people thought it was ‘shocking’ and urged Davina to ‘eat some food’.
One wrote: ‘I’m shocked to see Davina looking like this. Love this lady to bits but this is not a good loo for her. She needs to slow down and eat some food!!!!’
Another said: ‘Being healthy and fit is awesome but you have maybe gone to thin sweetheart .. dont damage yourself u can end up with other health issues xxxx’
Others defended her against body shaming though, reiterating that she’s an ‘inspiration’ for many.
One fan commented: ‘Body shaming keyboard warriors 👿👿👿👿👿 @davinamccall you look hot hot hot!!!! And fabulous that you are so fit, toned and body confident after having children – you’re an inspiration!!’
