Scarlett Moffatt praised for sharing make-up free selfie to set an example to young girls

'Great post and one I'll show my daughter'

Scarlett Moffatt has been applauded by fans for posting a candid make-up free selfie to highlight the dramatic difference that social media apps can make to an image.

Taking to Instagram to share side-by-side shots of herself with and without make-up and filters, former Gogglebox star Scarlett wrote: 'To all you young girls (and older ladies) out there don't believe all you see on social media. This goes to show what make up and a filter can do ☺️'

'Love who you are and don't compare yourself to anybody else. As dr Seuss once said.... Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You. #love #instagood #makeup #filter.'

Fans were quick to flood the post with supportive comments, with many saying that her words were inspiring, and that they felt Scarlett was an excellent role model for their children.

'Good for you to say this, I'm super impressed,' one fan wrote to the presenter. 'A lot of celebrities wouldn't 👏🏼.'

'Great post and one I'll show my daughter, young girls need to know the truth behind beauty 💕,' another agreed.

'@scarlett_moffatt you are the perfect role model for younger girls! My daughter absolutely loves you! ⭐️💛✨,' said a third, followed by a fourth who agreed: 'As a mum of of 13yr old daughter this is such an important message, thank you x'.

Since entering the public eye, Scarlett, 27, has always stressed the importance of showing the reality behind the often glamorous pictures that appear online and in the media. In a comment alongside her initial post, she added that she wanted to dispel the myths because of her younger sister, Ava.

'My little sister is only 11 & I always think it's important for her to understand social media is the us we want to show the world,' she explained.

'Everybody has things they love about themselves and things they sadly want to change - but it's important to never compare yourself to others, we are beautiful in our own way.'

Speaking to The Times earlier this year, she said of her relationship with her sibling: 'I've always told her to be a Froot Loop in a bowl of Cheerios. I feel as though I grew up in a different time to her because now everything is so looks-orientated, with everyone living through this pretend world of filters and Facetune.'

'That's why I like to post pictures on Instagram without my make-up - kids shouldn't feel they have to look a certain way.'
