The pregnant TV presenter went back to work just hours after finding out she’d lost her baby.
Alex was given the devastating news that her baby had ‘stopped developing at about nine weeks’ during a private ultrasound scan.
‘That was really hard. It hit us like a ton of bricks,’ she told Stella magazine.
‘It’s really odd. You’re in that room looking for answers that you’re never going to get. You’re thinking, “Have I done something wrong? What did I do differently? Was it because we flew a long way? Was I too stressed? Was I putting too much pressure on myself?”’
Alex had just returned from New Zealand, where she had found out she was pregnant only a few weeks before. Although she and her husband Charlie already had one son, Teddy, now two, the 42-year-old presenter had been struggling to conceive for a second time.
She revealed that although she told her boss on The One Show her sad news and was urged to take time off, she insisted on presenting the show that evening.
Incredibly, she was back on air just an hour later. ‘I said, “What else am I going to do?” It’s a horrible feeling because it is so empty,’ she heartbreakingly confessed. ‘There’s nothing to say. It’s done.’

Alex conceived again six months later and is now seven months pregnant. The presenter gave her fans the happy news when she announced her pregnancy on The One Show just before Christmas. But she says she has been struggling to relax and enjoy it after her past experiences.
She recently sought medical advice and shared a picture of herself being monitored in hospital to her Instagram story, after she got worried that her baby wasn’t moving as much as usual.
‘Hadn’t felt much movement from the baby for a few days so lying here being monitored,’ she wrote. ‘If in doubt mamas ALWAYS check! So reassuring to hear the heartbeat.’
Thankfully everything was fine and Alex discovered that ‘his or her little heartbeat was going like the clappers.
