A five year old with boy with cancer told his mother he was sorry before he passed away in her arms.

Charlie Proctor was diagnosed with Hepatoblastoma, a rare form of childhood liver cancer in 2016.

His parents, Amber Schofield and Ben Proctor had been raising money since then to try and get their son lifesaving treatment over in the US, as he was unable to get a liver transplant on the NHS.

The fundraising was noticed by high-profile celebrities like singer Pink and reality star Charlotte Crosby, both of whom tried to raise awareness of the family’s GoFundMe page to try and reach the £855,580 needed for the overseas medical procedures.

They raised £359,271 to date, but unfortunately the target wasn’t reached in time to save the little boy’s life.

Mum Amber took to the family’s fundraising social media pages, Charlie’s Chapter, to announce the sad news that Charlie had passed away on Friday evening.

‘Last night at 23:14 my best friend, my world, Charlie, took his final breath,’ Amber wrote in the heart-breaking post.

‘He fell asleep peacefully cuddled in my arms with daddy’s arms wrapped around us. Our hearts are aching. The world has lost an incredible little boy.

‘Charlie, you gave me chance to be a mum. You have been, not only our biggest inspiration but you have been an inspiration to thousands of people all over the world. You showed me what love really means Charlie.

‘Now it’s time to fly, I am so, so proud of you. You fought this so hard. My baby, I’m hurting so much. I will forever miss you baby bum. Sweet dreams my baby 💔’

Thousands of social media users commented on the devastating post on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, sending the family love and keeping Charlie in their thoughts.

This sad news came just a day after Amber wrote in detail about the young boy’s ordeal, saying that at one point during that day he apologised for constantly asking for help.

‘”Mummy, I’m so sorry for this” he was sorry because he wanted to move again and he felt he had to apologise for that’, wrote Amber.

‘So now I know he also feels like he’s some what “in the way”. My heart broke! No child should feel the emotions Charlie is feeling.’

We send our love and condolences to the grieving family and the parents who worked so hard to cure their little boy. Rest in Peace Charlie.
