Teen soap star Alex Bain, who’s starred in Coronation Street as Simon Barlow since 2008, has officially become a dad.

The 17-year-old confirmed his girlfriend was pregnant with their first child a few months ago, and now Levi has taken to social media to announce she’s given birth.

Alongside a sweet picture of their baby girl, the mum also revealed the baby name they picked - Lydia-Rose Bain.

According to the new mum, she was born on December 2nd – a few days earlier than the predicted due date on the 8th she had revealed earlier.

Their friends have been flooding social media with congratulatory messages, with one writing: ‘Levi and Alex she’s absolute gorgeous she really is beautiful, you must be so proud. You're gonna make the most amazing parents, well done and big congratulations… lots of love to you both.’

The baby news was first revealed in May, when Levi shared a snap of their first scan.

The dad confirmed the baby news in August, following rumours they’d split, with a short statement on Facebook.

He wrote at the time: ‘I’m still with my girlfriend, and can’t wait to have my own little family!’

According to The Sun, Alex was very happy that he was going to become a dad when the news came out.

A source said at the time: ‘Alex has been telling everyone he’s going to be a father. He isn’t keeping it a secret. It’s hard to tell if he’s happy about it or not but he’s definitely not ashamed of it.’

The pair, who are still in school, have been together since April 2017, according to OK! Magazine, so the pregnancy came around a year after the start of their relationship.

They have reportedly received negative commented from members of the public who criticise their young age, but plenty of fans have defended them on social media.

One said: ‘I had my first baby at 17, age should not matter. We're in the 21st century, really, this is beautiful – don't let anyone say different! Congratulations.’

Another wrote: ‘They haven't ruined their lives. Nothing comes close to the love you have for a child. It will give them things they've never had before… and the love they'll feel is so unique.’
