The most popular dog names for 2020 have been revealed

If you’re getting a pet, one of the hardest things is choosing a name for your new companion.

But if you need some inspiration, dog chew brand Tasty Bone has predicted what the most popular dog names of 2020 will be.

New data has shown that nearly one in five dogs were named after a film character, with Marvel and DC characters being favoured by many owners.

Dog names such as Loki and Harley were popular last year, named after the popular villains from both comic book universes.

Charlie is the most popular dog name predicted for next year, followed by Loki in second place. With a much-anticipated Charlie’s Angels hitting the big screen soon, it’s no surprise that fans might name their dogs after it.

Harley is in third place, predicted to be popular ahead of the release of new DC film Birds of Prey, featuring the iconic character Harley Quinn.

Next is Elsa, who we’re sure you’ll all know as the protagonist of the Disney film Frozen. Since we’re getting a sequel to the much-loved film, the name Elsa is expected to be popular next year.

In fifth and sixth place are Bella and Luke, the latter named after Luke Skywalker in the iconic Star Wars franchise.

Simba and Lady came in at seventh and eighth place, named after main characters in popular Disney films The Lion King and Lady and the Tramp.

This could be due to recent remakes of both films, with the new live-action Lady and the Tramp film arriving next month.

Finally, Millie and Maggie take ninth and tenth place, but these are said to be as a result of celebrities rather than the characters they play.

Millie Bobby Brown rose to fame in Netflix series Stranger Things, so fans could be naming their furry friend after the award-winning actress.

Similarly, as a result of the new Downton Abbey film, fans could name pets after veteran actress Maggie Smith who is known for her role as sassy Violet Crawley.
