Waterloo Road star Heather Peace 'raging' after run-in with homophobic nanny

Waterloo Road actress Heather Peace is furious after a nanny refused to look after her children because they have two mothers.

Heather and her wife Ellie share three children and needed a nanny for some short-term help while Heather went away for work and Ellie recovered from an operation.

But the actress was completely floored when a nanny she tried to book through an agency refused to work with her family.

Heather said on Twitter: 'Today my wife @ElliePeace01 was looking for a short term nanny whilst I work for the next few weeks. She’s had an operation yesterday that means she cannot lift the babies for a fortnight. We haven't experienced much homophobia before but....... I’m raging.'

And in a longer post on Facebook, Ellie explained why it was so hurtful to be considered a 'lesser family'.

She said: ‘Today I had a nasty shock when a nanny I was booking through an agency refused to work for a family with two mothers.

'It took me ages to work out why I was so acutely sad and angry about this in particular. And it was because of my three wonderful children.

'Being judged. In this day and age. As "lesser". As part of an "unsavoury family". In Brighton of all places.’

Ellie then revealed that she told the agency boss it was a 'disgrace' and she refused to use her agency again if she was going to employ homophobic nannies.

She added: 'But I'm still left reeling... As I lie waiting for my most wonderful eldest daughter to drift off to sleep to what I can only hope will be a more inclusive and less hate-filled world tomorrow. Love wins, people. Resistance is futile.'

Fans were just as shocked over the incident and many shared their support, with one commenting: 'I have no words but sending you and your incredible wife and beautiful children hugs’.

Another said: 'This is awful - just awful!! The agency should get rid of that nanny immediately!'
