  • A mum has taken to Facebook to warn other parents about the return of the 'deodorant challenge' after her daughter was left needing a skin graft.

The worrying and dangerous craze has returned to schools around the country and one mum has taken to Facebook to encourage parents to stop their children trying the hazardous ‘challenge’.

The ‘deodorant challenge‘ is not a new phenomenon amongst children and teens, but it has started to resurface in schools across the country. Last year we reported about another mum who had taken to Facebook to warn parents after her daughter received permanent scars due to the challenge.

Jamie Prescott from Yate posted several pictures on Facebook showing the horrific consequences of the and has urged parents to discourage their children from taking part.

The challenge involves getting deodorant sprayed onto your arm by someone else at a close proximity and for as long as you can take the pain. The worrying trend can result in serious burns, as Jamie’s photographs demonstrate.

Jamie captioned the shocking photographs of her daughter’s arm saying: ‘I seldom rarely do this, but on this occasion, I would like this post spread wide and far…..For any parents who have children, please, please sit them down and show them these pictures…..These are the damaging results of something known as ‘The Deodorant Challenge’ which is currently doing the rounds in Yate and literally involves spraying deodorant on to someone else for as long as possible…..

‘It’s that simple and results in severe secondary burns. The pictures below are that of my Year 10 daughter’s arm THREE WEEKS ON which may still as yet require a skin graft…..’.

So far the alarming post has received over 3,000 shares and have hundreds of comments from parents raising their concern over the fact the trend is still popular with school children.

One person wrote: ‘I am 44 and this was a craze at my secondary school over 30 years ago. Things don’t change.’

Another said: ‘Omg this is awful. My nephew was doing this when he started secondary school. It’s it so ridiculous, why are the teachers not aware about this . Hope it improves for her’.

A fellow parent empathised with Jamie and shared her own daughter’s story. She wrote: ‘Unfortunately I know exactly what you are going through, my daughter did exactly the same thing about two years ago . Ignore all these disgusting comments about how “stupid” your daughter is you will be going through enough heartache at the moment.

‘We visited the nurse every two days for dressing changes but it never healed and continued to get worse and can honestly say the best thing was a skin graft. Sure she’s is left with a big scar but she uses camouflage make up to cover it up. There is light at the end of the tunnel and you are extremely brave to be posting this as I knew I couldn’t because of all this negativity you are getting on this post x’.
