Sophie Ellis-Bextor has announced she's expecting her fifth child with husband Richard Jones.
The singer shared the lovely baby news on Chris Evans’ show on BBC Radio 2, revealing that she’s expecting her fifth child and she will be welcoming the baby at the same time her next album comes out.
She said: ‘The album will come out around the same time as my fifth infant because I’m having my fifth baby. Mental!’
Sophie’s new album, The Song Diaries, is due out in autumn, so she must be entering her last trimester. The mum, who has four boys, has not disclosed if she’s expecting a baby boy or a baby girl this time.
When asked if parenting gets easier, the expectant mum said: ‘No I don’t think it does, but I think you get more relaxed with the chaos.’
She added: ‘I’ve just had a week away with Richard and five kids because our eldest brought a mate and I took a book, which now seems like the most optimistic thing I could have done. It didn’t even get opened.’
This will be the couple’s fifth child, who are already parents to Sonny, 13, Kit, nine, Ray, five, and Jesse, three.
The pair married in 2005, and have been together for nearly 14 years, after welcoming their first child born just eight months after they met.
Speaking to Hello magazine after welcoming Jesse in 2015, Sophie revealed she was open to having more children.
She said: ‘After I had my first and second children, I was often asked, “Are you having another?” Now, after four, it’s very telling that I’m getting “Are you stopping now?”
‘If you ask other people in my household, they would say, “Yes, we’re done”. My answer would be more along the lines of, “I guess I should stop now… Shouldn’t I?”’
Congratulations to the family!
