Iceland launches ready to heat scrambled eggs

Saturday mornings will never be the same again...

Supermarket chain Iceland has created the ultimate instant breakfast for time-poor people - ready scrambled eggs.

After it conducted research into Brits' eating habits, Iceland found that busy workers struggle to take time out from their schedules to cook a hearty breakfast or lunch.

Almost half (46 per cent) of those surveyed said they don't have adequate facilities to cook at work, while 16 per cent admitted to eating three to four meals a day at their desks.

The same research revealed that 13 per cent of students hadn't even mastered the art of boiling an egg, let alone scrambling one.

This is where the supermarket's Ready Scrambled Eggs steps in, offering everyone - from hungry employees to hapless students - the chance to get a warming dish to the table in minutes.

Priced at £1.50, the innovative product comes in a chilled 250g pouch, and is ready to serve after just 90 seconds in the microwave. Made with four free range British eggs with a dash of milk and seasoning, it can also be emptied out and warmed up in a frying pan.

Commenting on the launch, Iceland’s Head Chef Neil Nugent said: 'Convenience and quality is fundamental to all of Iceland’s dishes, even simple ones likes scrambled egg. It’s really easy for our customers to cook at work with limited resources on offer, or those needing a speedy breakfast at home.

'Our ready-made scrambled eggs are made using British free range eggs with a little seasoning and are ready in just 90 seconds. For the perfect breakfast, serve on seeded bread with smoked salmon.'

Free from artificial colours, flavours and preservatives, Ready Scrambled Eggs are now available in store and online.

The latest offering from Iceland follows a series of surprise launches from the supermarket including everything from frozen avocados to No Bull - the UK’s first bleeding vegan burger.
