We unashamedly love Lidl, so we’re delighted to hear that the budget supermarket is considering home deliveries.
Speaking to The Grocer, Lidl bosses said that they were planning a brand new ‘platform’ where customers could buy products. This might mean that the company are working on an app, which is exciting.
In this digital age, it would certainly be a welcome addition.
They also said they were ‘actively exploring’ the online sphere as a way to ‘drive online sales’, hence why some people are speculating that home deliveries might be a reality soon.
Lidl are currently advertising for a new digital project manager to help drive sales online, as well as head up this new online platform. However, not much else is known about this job so it’s unclear exactly what the right candidate will be responsible for.
But despite the fact Lidl don’t currently sell anything online, they seem keen to hire this role – which is getting people thinking online delivery could be coming soon!
The successful candidate will be based in their UK head office in Wimbledon, working closely with the head of e-commerce.
Rival budget supermarket Aldi already sells many of their products online, so perhaps they’re following suit.
Aldi currently offer food, drink and some of their Specialbuys for online delivery, but some things are in-store exclusives such as limited edition items or bigger products.
Whatever the ‘new online platform’ is, we’re excited to find out how this might improve our shopping experience with Lidl. After all, we can always get behind convenience!
Aldi have already teased some of their Christmas menu, announcing their halloumi and bacon snack that’s perfect for lovers of the Cypriot cheese. We’ll definitely be stocking up on these.
Hopefully Lidl will launch theirs soon, as we’re so excited to see what Christmas bargains we can pick up this season!
So whilst we’re not entirely sure what the budget supermarket are up to, we’ll be following updates closely to see whether we can order Lidl goodies to our door soon.
