Cookie mix in a jar

We love giving foodie gifts, especially at Christmas. Whoever you make this for we think they'll love it! Write the recipe for the cookies on a large luggage tag or sticker and stick it on the jar, so the recipient knows how to turn the dry mix into delicious cookies!

Ingredients

  • 100g light brown sugar
  • Pinch of salt
  • 160g self-raising flour
  • 100g red M&Ms
  • 100g green M&Ms

Step 1

Step 1

Take a 0.5l sterlised Kilner jar and place on a flat, stable surface.

Step 2

Step 2

Measure out the flour and carefully pour it into the jar.

Step 3

Step 3

Pat down the flour with the end of a rolling pin to get a flat surface and to pack the flour down really tightly.

Step 4

Step 4

Pour sugar in a constrasting colour on top of the flour (we used soft brown sugar). You may find it easier (and less messy!) to pour it from a jug rather than a large bowl.

Step 5

Step 5

Tap the jar on your surface a few times to make the sugar layer even, and then pack it down tightly with the end of a rolling pin.

Step 6

Step 6

Add chocolate chips, nuts, Smarties or M&Ms to the top, one layer at a time.

Step 7

Step 7

If you're using different coloured-chocolates, add one layer of colour at a time. We used red and green M&Ms to make Christmas cookies.

Wrap the jar with a ribbon and attach a label with our cookie recipe so the recipient knows how to turn the mix into cookies.
