Nelly Furtado has revealed that she's spilt from husband Demacio Castellon, after being married for nearly nine years.

The singer shared the sad news on Loose Women yesterday, where she made an appearance to promote her new album.

'I'm single now. Someone needs to update my Wikipedia, it's not helping my dating life', the hitmaker said during the show.

The Canadian-Portuguese artist revealed the pair split last summer, after nearly nine years of marriage.

The two met while working on Nelly's successful album Loose in 2006, and got engaged a year later in 2007.

They tied the knot in July 2008, but she only revealed the news a few months later in an interview with Entertainment Tonight Canada, saying she was 'happy' and 'excited about the future'.

'It's a nice phase of my life. I just feel kind of free and relaxed and more in tune with trying not to be so stressed out. [I'm] trying to enjoy things a little more. I'm happy; I'm excited about the future', the singer said in 2008. Nelly has a 13-year-old daughter from her past long-term relationship to Jasper Gahunia.

During her appearance on Loose Women, Nelly discussed how she juggled motherhood with her music career, saying it wasn't easy. 'At the height of my career, it was super exciting - but I took too much on. A mother on the road trying to maintain a relationship; I cried on stage', she said.

'Touring with my daughter got very tiring. I was breastfeeding on the tour bus. You feel bad saying no, as women you're nurturers and with a successful business you feel the pressure not to say no more than our male counterparts.

'Don't we always think we're doing the wrong thing as mums. You have to have that fine line between them respecting you.'

The mum-of-one also shared how the tough times have taught her to prioritise her wellbeing, even while coping with the demands of a career in entertainment.

'Sometimes you just want to sit home and bake muffins for your daughter, clean my toilet, having a moment to yourself. It's great to have your career take off and have those blessings, but if you don't have that time, when you give and give you crash.

'I need to stay emotionally and physically well for my daughter.'
