James Burrows has announced that he is engaged.
The Coronation Street star took to his social pages to announce the exciting news that he is engaged to partner Sophie Coates.
The 28-year-old, who plays Dr Ali Neeson in the ITV soap, took to Instagram to share the happy news with his over 27,000 followers, explaining how he took his love out on a boat in the Lake District’s renowned Lake Windermere to pop the question.
Sharing a series of sweet photos of the pair, including one that shows the actor driving the boat himself and also of course a close up of the sparkling ring, the soap star wrote: ‘So at the weekend I asked my best friend to be my wife on a boat in the middle of the lake and she said yes and it’s made me one very happy man #lakedistrict #engaged #happy'.
New fiancée Sophie also shared the news with her over 3,000 followers on Instagram, explaining her shock at the surprise engagement.
Sharing a few extra photos to add to the ones that James had uploaded, the 30-year-old wrote: ‘I said yes! Not really, I said “are you joking” about 17 times and then I said yes 💍🥂❤️’.
Friends and followers rushed to congratulate the pair, with many of James’ fellow Corrie stars leaving sweet message for the newly-engaged couple.
Fellow stars Charlie de Melo, Jack P Shepherd and Ellie Leach wrote: ‘Wahey! Congratulations you guys!’ ‘Congrats burrows! X’ and ‘Verified
ahhhhh congrats !!!!’.
Stars Alexandra Mardell, Julia Goulding and Sair Khan also commented writing: ‘Congrats!!! 🤗’, ‘Congratulations to both of you! Xx’ and ‘CONGRATULATIONS’.
This comes after a busy year for the couple, as earlier this year they became parents.
The pair welcomed their first child, daughter Betty, earlier this year back in April after announcing Sophie’s pregnancy last October.
Opening up about the difficult birth Sophie told OK! Magazine: ‘Towards the end of my pregnancy I got pre-eclampsia so I was induced in the end. I was in and out of hospital from 30 weeks anyway, as they were checking me for high blood pressure, and then the final time I went in they told me it had developed into pre-eclampsia.
‘I was induced with a hormone drip,’ she added. ‘It was 46 hours in total. It was very intense.’
