Suranne Jones welcomes her first child with husband Laurence Akers

The TV star only announced her pregnancy in January

Suranne Jones has welcomed her first child with husband Laurence Akers, after revealing her surprise pregnancy at the National Television Awards in January.

Two months ago we didn't even know the Doctor Foster star was expecting, but now the couple have revealed that they welcomed their first child last week - and it's a baby boy!

A rep for the actress confirmed the lovely baby news, saying: 'Suranne and Laurence were delighted to welcome their son into the world last week.'

Just last Friday, the new mum received the best actress prize for her role in BBC One drama Dr Foster, but she didn't make it to the ceremony and now we know why.

In a pre-recorded video to accept the award at the Broadcasting Press Guild Awards on Friday night, she hinted that the couple's new arrival was already here, saying: 'Sorry I can't be there but I have a good excuse.'

Suranne announced she was expecting her first child at the National Television Awards in January, when she showed up with her beautiful baby bump.

The former Coronotion Street star tied the knot with husband Laurence Akers, a magazine editor, in August last year. The two got engaged after dating for only six months, and didn't waste time in making it official.

According to The Sun, they had a very private ceremony in London, with just a few friends and family members present.

'Suranne is very private and not the type of person to have her wedding in a magazine or on social media. The nuptials were very hastily arranged with nothing too fancy', a source told the newspaper.

'But it was intimate and romantic, and both the bride and groom were very happy.'

And it seems it's all still going very well for the couple, who have now entered a new phase in their lives.

'We have been married nearly a year and a half now and what a wonderful way to kind of move our marriage on. We're dying to celebrate the new arrival', Suranne said when she announced her pregnancy.

Congratulations to the sweet couple!
