ASDA is launching a new caterpillar cake, and it’s a foot-and-a-half long!
Are you ready to meet Colossal Clyde?
If you like M&S' Colin the Caterpillar cake, you'll love Asda's new giant version.
Colin the Caterpillar fans are in for a treat, because ASDA has just launched a supersized version of the chocolatey classic. Named Colossal Clyde, their cake is 45cm long and will fill 24 hungry mouths.
M&S introduced the original Colin the Caterpillar cake in 1990. A chocolate sponge roll covered in milk chocolate, filled with chocolate buttercream and decorated with sugar-coated milk chocolate beans, Colin is a chocolate lover’s dream and has been a staple at children’s birthday parties ever since.
But he’s not just for kids. Even David Beckham celebrated a recent birthday with a caterpillar cake.
ASDA's standard Clyde cake is half the size of Colossal Clyde and serves 12 people. Clyde gets rave reviews from ASDA shoppers. ‘This is honestly the best birthday cake out there,’ said one. ‘I’d rather buy this 100 times over than settle for a ‘grown up’ cake which is bland, dry and tasteless. 100% recommend. It’s amazing and for the price outstanding.’
But now he's bigger and better than ever. ‘As well as being a fun novelty cake, Colossal Clyde is great value for money for our customers,’ said ASDA’s resident bakery expert Sarah Burns. ‘There has been an increasing demand for supersized and extraordinary products recently and we’re happy to be at the forefront of quirky thinking and showstopping products that our customers love.’
Last year, M&S launched a supersized version of the iconic treat themselves. Giant Colin weighs in at a whopping 2.3kg and serves 40 people. At £40, the cake is on the pricey side. But customers have been snapping it up in their droves, with more than 250 reviewers giving the cake an average rating of 4.8/5. ‘There were ohhhs and ahhhs, and that was just the parents,’ joked one mum.

Unlike Giant Colin, Colossal Clyde’s face is made from icing rather than chocolate. His body will still be covered in chocolate though, so we reckon that gives you the best of both worlds.
Colossal Clyde will be available to buy online and in ASDA stores from 1st April. Perfect for parties, the cake will cost just £12.
