At this time of year, autumnal fruit are cheap and provide a glut of recipes. Preserves are one of the easiest ways to use up the fruit and plums make delicious spreads. Both sweet and sticky, we’ve added festive spices to make this a perfect Christmas foodie gift. Simply pot the spiced plum jam into jars, wrap in a pretty ribbon and add a gift tag with what it is and an expiry date. Once made and stored correctly, it can sit in the fridge for up to 3months; so it’s the present that keeps on giving!
- 1kg plums, halved and stoned
- 2tsp ground cinnamon
- 2tsp ground ginger
- 700g preserving or granulated sugar
- In a large pan, pour 300ml water over the plums. Bring to the boil, then simmer the fruit for 15mins or until soft.
- Add the sugar and stir until dissolved. Boil for 5-10 minutes until the jam has reached setting point. Pour into hot, sterilized jars and seal.
Top Tip for making Spiced plum jam
To sterilise your jars easily, simply pop them in the top shelf of an empty dishwasher on a hot wash
