Terri Dwyer shares UV images of her sun damaged face as she battles another health scare

She's survived skin cancer twice

Former Hollyoaks actress Terri Dwyer has shared shocking images of her sun damaged face under a UV camera, as she reveals she is suffering another skin cancer scare.

The self-confessed sun-worshipper has survived skin cancer twice - being diagnosed with malignant melanoma in 2014 - and most recently, spoke out about her concerns over a mole that had changed shape.

Doctors believe her previous cancer diagnoses was cause by years of using sunbeds in her teenage years, using a tanning bed before the age of 35 increases the risk of melanoma by 75%. The mum-of-two, who lives in Cheshire with husband Sean, feared the disease would rob her sons Caiden, 11, and seven-year-old Kylan, of their mother.

It's because of this the 44-year old has become an ambassador for Tan Ban UK petition to ban use of tanning beds in the UK - similar to a ruling that already exist in Australia.

The ex-Loose Women panellist became a household name for her role as Ruth Osborn in daytime soap Hollyoaks in 1995, and is now using her position in the public eye to raise awareness of the campaign.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Terri said: 'I had a sunbed at home when I was 18. Then after that I was always bronzing myself on holidays abroad and didn't always wear sunscreen.'

'The dangers of getting bronzed isn't something you worry about when you're young. I wish I could go back and have a word with my younger self,' she admitted.

'Doctors have said it's very likely that my use of tanning beds caused my cancer. It took around 30 years of campaigning the ban to come into force in Australia so it's not going to happen overnight.'

Melanoma - which is mostly caused by exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light from the sun and sunbed use - is the least common but most dangerous form of skin cancer.

Cases have doubled since 1973 and it affects more than 14,500 people in the UK and 80,000 in the US. It is the most common cancer in women in their 20s.
