Actress Vinessa Shaw welcomes her first baby at 41 after a long labour with 'complications'

Actress Vinessa Shaw has given birth to her first child at the age of 41.

The Hocus Pocus star confirmed the news that her little boy had arrived on Instagram by sharing a moving post.

'After a long labor with many complications, Baby Jack was finally born two and a half weeks after his due date on 2.20.2018 weighing in at 9lbs 9oz,' she wrote on the picture-sharing platform.

'Needless to say, we are overjoyed about our new little addition!'

[/instagram] Vinessa went on to tell her followers that the birth of her son didn't quite go to plan, before expressing her gratitude towards everyone involved in his delivery.

'He and I went through a lot, as the plans of having a natural birth were derailed. But with the support of so many people: family, midwives, and hospital staff, we came out victorious, healthy, and happy,' she continued.

'Ok that's all. Too tired to write anything else. Nap time! 😴😴😴#happymommy #happyfamily #champions.'

The American star accompanied her words with a sweet black and white image showing her gripping her tiny tot's hand.

Thrilled to learn that Jack and his proud mother were doing well, lots of Vinessa's followers rushed to leave kind words for her to read.

Another added: 'What beautiful hands!! He's a little tough guy and you're a tough mama. Can't wait to meet him.'

A third admirer sent their regards from Scandinavia.

They gushed: 'Hurra hurra hurra!! Congratulations Vinessa!!! SO happy for you, this is pure magic!! Lots of love from Sweden xxx 😍🙏❤.'

Vinessa's son with graphic designer Kristopher Gifford entered the world over two weeks past his due date.

She first announced she was expecting in August last year and has uploaded a number of snaps of her journey towards motherhood online since.
