Traveling treasure hunt
'Create a treasure hunt list of items for the kids to look out for during the journey, such as a yellow car, an RAC van or a mobile home. It can be adapted for different ages to keep it interesting for everyone.'

Take along home comforts
'My three children like their books and gadgets so we never leave home without them, and they tend to keep them busy. If they still get rowdy I tell them I need to concentrate on the roads so I don't crash the car... that usually works!'

'Good old fashioned 'I spy' keeps my daughters entertained for hours on end. Don't underestimate the classics!'
Number plate game
'Get your children to keep their eyes peeled and see if they can make words or phrases out of the letters on number plates - just watch out for rude words!'
'Always keep a bag of sweets in the front of the car as a last resort, to bribe little ones into keeping quiet.'
