How to get the best discounts on Amazon Prime Day
Even though shoppers have two days to snap up bargains on Amazon Prime Day this year, there are some hints and tricks to get the best discounts on Amazon Prime Day. Here’s what to do…
1. Keep an eye on this page and GoodtoKnow deal pages
We’ve got the lowdown on some of the most impressive bargains set to go live on Amazon Prime Day, across technology, kitchen appliances and wares, gaming consoles and home fitness equipment. So check out our Amazon Prime section of the website for what we know so far, bookmark this page and sign up to our newsletter (wait for a couple of seconds and a box will pop up).
Here’s one to keep you going: Shoppers can get their first discount before Amazon Prime Day with a free £10 off to spend on the day.
2. Sign up to Amazon Prime (if you don’t already have membership)
Originally, Amazon Prime Day was designed to increase Amazon Prime subscribers. But in 2020, five years after the day was first brought to the UK, there’s no need for incentives as people are clicking in droves to join the fast-delivery membership scheme. If you haven’t signed up yet and want to get in on the Amazon Prime Day deals, you can do so here and even just sign up for a 30-day free trial (no strings attached!) to get access.
3. Create an Amazon wish-list to save money
There’s plenty of reasons why everyone should have an Amazon wish-list but particularly before Amazon Prime Day, it’s a great thing to have. A wish-list will help you keep control of your spending by just directing you to your pre-saved products, so you can get the discount ASAP and log off.
It’s also a good thing to do as you’ll be able to check out the ‘before’ prices on the items you want to buy, so you can see how much of a discount there really is on Amazon Prime Day.
4. Get in there early to take advantage of the best discounts
Many of the deals drop at midnight on October 13, so if you’re a night owl or an early bird, then you stand the best chance of scooping the best deals on Amazon Prime Day. If you’re not up in the early hours (us neither!) then we recommend logging on at around six in the morning, as this is when other shoppers will start to be buying out the bargains. And once they’re gone, they’re gone! So get in there as early as possible to pick up the discounts this year.
How much is Amazon Prime membership in the UK?
After the 30-day free trial, if you’re looking to keep up your Amazon Prime membership then it’s £79 per year or £7.99 a month. The retailer also offer student discount, so those who go to college or university can get the service at the reduced price of just £39.
But if that’s not for you, then it’s so easy to cancel your Amazon Prime membership after the free trial as well. Simply head over to your account, click on ‘Prime’ then head to ‘Manage’ where you’ll be able to terminate your subscription and avoid paying any fees.
Can you return products bought in the Amazon Prime Day sale 2020?
For the whole of the winter season, Amazon is extending their returns policy. This means that items shipped out between October 1 and December 31 can be returned right up until January 31 2021. After this date, the Amazon returns policy will go back to the standard 30-day period for items delivered after December 31 2020.
This means that anything you buy over Amazon Prime day can be returned right up until the new year.
What is the benefit of shopping on Amazon Prime Day and how is it different from Black Friday?
While Black Friday and Cyber Monday also offer shoppers the chance to buy big brand products at reduced prices, the difference with Amazon Prime Day is that you can expect exclusive discounts on the site that are unlikely to crop up again later this year.
As Amazon Prime Day is all about shopping on Amazon, the site will reduce the price of its well-known, own-brand items like Kindles, Amazon Echo and Fire Stick.
As well as Amazon-branded products, you can also expect to find some great deals on other major brands too. The benefit of shopping on Amazon Prime Day instead of waiting for the December sales is that Amazon wants you to spend your money with them right now. As a result, they’re going to try and tempt you with irresistible offers that undercut what other sites may offer you on Black Friday if you wait.
Finally, because the Amazon Prime Day sale is usually only open to Amazon Prime customers, you may find that there is slightly less competition for some of the items compared to Black Friday – when the deals are available for everyone. As of 2019, 39% of consumers had access to Amazon Prime. So, that’s less than half of UK shoppers who have access to the Amazon Prime Day deals.
But if you miss out on these incredible Amazon Prime Day deals, then all is not lost as Black Friday is just at the end of November this year. Those looking for sportswear and tech are set to snap up quality deals (and even early offers) from the likes of the Wiggle Black Friday sale and cracking toys and games in the Disney Black Friday sale too.
When does Amazon Prime Day end?
The great deals to be had on Amazon Prime Day – including discounts on desirable tech items like laptops, TVs, iPads, gaming consoles, smartwatches and headphones – will all be gone tonight!
Amazon Prime Day 2020 ends at midnight (GMT) in the UK on October 14, 2020. So you’ve got less than 12 hours left to shop the deals and discounts.
All of the deals available today are exclusive to Amazon Prime customers. A great excuse to get your Christmas shopping for the kids done early this year!
If you’re not a member already, sign up for a free 30-day Amazon Prime trial here – just make sure you cancel it before the 30 days is up, or you will be charged.
