Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have officially confirmed that they will be moving out of Kensington Palace.
Rumours that the royal couple would be moving away from their London residence at Kensignton Palace, where William and Kate also live with their three children, started to recently emerge and now the news has been officially confirmed.
According to a statement issued by Kensington Palace, the expectant parents will be moving Frogmore Cottage, located in the Windsor estate, early next year.
The move is expected to happen before Meghan gives birth to the couple’s first child, due in spring.
The statement read: ‘The Duke an Duchess of Sussex will move to Frogmore Cottage on the Windsor Estate early next year as they prepare for the arrival of their first child.
‘The couple have lived at Nottingham Cottage since their engagement last year.
‘Windsor is a very special place for Their Royal Highnesses and they are grateful that their official residence will be on the estate.
‘The Duke and Duchess’s office will continue to be based at Kensington Palace.’
Windsor is where the pair tied the knot back in May, so it’s no wonder the estate holds a special place in their heart.
One of the reasons the couple is thought to be making the move is space, as they start their new family.
Their new home, a Grade II-listed building with 10 bedrooms, is much bigger their current two-bedroom cottage at Kensington Palace, to accommodate little ones and Meghan’s mum, Doria.
A source told the Sunday Mirror: ‘With a baby on the way, there wasn’t the option of the Duke and Duchess staying at the palace as Nottingham Cottage is tiny and none of the bigger apartments is available.
‘Doria will be staying with them for quite long periods and they need a larger place.’
Much like his big brother William and Kate, who also moved away from London when they welcomed their first child Prince George, Harry might be looking to get away from the capital in order to raise their first child in a more peaceful environment.
And while they will still be able to play with their baby cousin, we bet the Cambridges' little ones are probably sad about the move as they uncle Harry and his new baby won’t be just a short walk away any more.
By moving to Windsor, the Sussexes will also be closer to the Queen, who spends most of her weekends at Windsor Castle.
The Castle’s official website reads: ‘The Queen spends most of her private weekends at Windsor Castle and takes up official residence for a month over Easter, known as 'Easter Court'.
‘The Queen is also at Windsor for one week each June, while attending Royal Ascot and the service of the Order of the Garter at St George’s Chapel.’
