  • Kate Middleton has announced that she is set to launch a new scheme to raise awareness about mental health in young children.

An announcement regarding the news was made by Kensington Palace on Twitter this morning.

‘The Duchess of Cambridge is to launch a new mental health project for young children, in the latest initiative from @heads_together during a visit to Roe Green Junior School in Brent on February 23. #headstogether’, the first of two posts said.

‘Supporting young people was always at the heart of Heads Together for The Duchess. 1 in 5 children experience a mental health difficulty before the age of 11. The project is the result of the partnership between the Royal Foundation, @AFNCCF @YoungMindsUK and @Place2Be.’

Fans of the royal family were quick to show their support for Kate’s new initiative.

‘Very well done on helping to end kids’ suffering: your clout and influence is going to make good things happen’, said one, while another added: ‘Very inspiring.’

It’s clear that the issue has always been important to Kate, who also hosted a talk on maternal mental health towards the end of 2017.

During an appearance at the Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families last year, the 36-year-old discussed the stigma attached to mental health and youngsters.

‘Mental health is how we feel and think. Things that can’t really be seen, but that affect us every day and talking about them can feel difficult’, she said.

‘As parents, we all want our children to have the best possible start in life. Encouraging children to understand and be open about their feelings can give them the skills to cope with the ups and downs that life will throw at them as they grow up.’

Kate – who previously opened up about lacking confidence in her parenting abilities– is currently preparing for the birth of her third child with Prince William.

And Kate is not the only one being vocal about mental health – the 35-year-old dad has also highlighted the importance of speaking out whenever something’s worrying you when the couple visited the Young Minds call centre.

Prince Harry is another member of the royal family who’s been very open about mental health, previously revealing that he sought therapy to cope with his mother’s death, after years of ‘shutting down’ all of his emotions and not talking about it.
