  • Aldi has announced it will start trialling self-service tills to make your shopping experience even more efficient.

There are many reasons the budget retailer has a legion of fans. Of course everyone loves their bargains – from wine to luxury cheap candles – but their speedy checkouts have gained an almost legendary status.

And now they’re about to become even speedier, as the company announced it is trialling the introduction of self-service checkouts to its stores.

So far the new checkouts have only been added to their store in Tamworth, Staffordshire, but they could be coming to more stores soon.

Richard Thornton, Aldi’s communications director, said: ‘We are focused on giving our customers a quick and simple experience in our stores.

‘We think these new checkouts will help further improve that experience and we are looking forward to seeing how customers respond to this extra option at our Glascote store.’

Most supermarkets already have self-service checkouts, with competitor Lidl having installed the machines in 150 of its 740 stores according to The Sun.

The news comes after the retailer announced the return of a much-loved favourite – their halloumi fries.

They were first launched last summer, inspired by Nando’s very own halloumi fries, and quickly became a hit.

In fact, they got so popular that the retailer had to limit sales to two boxes per customer after a month.

They’re finally back now and you can get them for £2.29 for a whole 190g box in Aldi stores across the country.

Maybe you’ll even pay for them in a self-checkout till…
