Morrisons is the first UK supermarket to launch a vegan Cornish pasty
Following the huge success of Greggs' vegan sausage roll, Morrisons has launched a plant-based Cornish pasty.
As we all know, following a vegan diet has grown in popularity in recent years with new and inventive animal-free products popping up on supermarkets shelves and in restaurants across the nation, almost every day.
One of the most popular items released this year was another pastry treat – the vegan sausage roll. Greggs was the first to launch the sell-out item, and many of the supermarkets soon followed suit, with Tesco selling their own version.
And, you’ll be pleased to know that as of today (8 July) vegan Cornish pasties are now available in all Morrisons stores across the country - and they're only £1.75 each.
Like all Cornish pasties, these will be handmade in Cornwall - otherwise, they're not officially allowed to be called a 'Cornish pasty' at all - and, the supermarket has promised they'll be as close to the original recipe as possible.
The pasties have been created using a vegan mince, which mimics the original meaty taste, combined with a traditional seasoned mix of potatoes, swede and onion, all wrapped in a crimped rough puff flakey pastry.
Morrisons pasty puyer, Steve Halford, said: 'Some of our customers want to cut down on their red meat intake, so we wanted to offer a pasty that’s meat-free and as delicious as the original.'

There is no doubt that pasties are one of the nation’s favourite snacks, there's even a World Pasty Championship competition held annually in Cornwall in March, and there are already lots of variations of the pasty across the world.
Cornish pasties used to provide a whole meal for working miners with a sweet filling in one half and a savoury filling in the other!
Morrison’s Cornish vegan pasty have been launched as part of the supermarket's new vegan range available at their in-store Pie Shop counters. Each pasty will be priced £1.75, or as part of 2 for £3 deal.
If you want to get your hands on more vegan products, Morrison’s also offer vegan sausage rolls which retail for £1 each or are available as part of a 2 for £1.50 deal.
