The reason Meghan Markle will spend Christmas morning apart from Prince Harry

What do you think of the reason behind this...

Pregnant Meghan Markle will not spend Christmas morning with husband Prince Harry due to a royal tradition, according to palace insiders.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are approaching their first Christmas as a married couple and their last as a unit of two before they welcome their son or daughter in spring.

Against tradition, Meghan’s mum Doria has been invited to spend Christmas Day with the royals at Sandringham Palace – an invitation that has never been extended to Kate’s family.

But it seems Meghan and Harry won’t be able to spend the full day of festivities together as they are obliged to follow some royal traditions.

Royal women traditionally have breakfast in their rooms while men go downstairs for their first meal of the day.

Kensington Palace confirms Kate and William’s Christmas plans

Former chef to the Queen Darren McGrady explained in the Mail on Sunday: ‘On Christmas Day, the ladies generally opt for a light breakfast of sliced fruit, half a grapefruit, toast and coffee delivered to their rooms.’

However, male royals have to be downstairs at 8.30am sharp according to Darren where they will tuck into a hearty meal of eggs, bacon and mushrooms, kippers and grilled kidneys.

This should keep all the royals ticking over during the 11am church service and they’ll later enjoy a huge Christmas dinner feast.

Former royal butler and etiquette expert Grant Harrold also confirmed to The Sun’s Fabulous team: ‘In a lot of aristocratic homes, it does still happen that the men will have breakfast downstairs while the women have breakfast in their bedroom.

‘All the ladies would have breakfast in bed apart from the single ladies.

‘The single ladies have to be seen as “sociable” whereas the ladies who were married didn’t have to come down and socialise.’
