  • This is a classic martini, served straight up (without ice). Some like it served with a salty green olive, some like a twist of lemon peel, slightly squeezed to release the lemon oils. A standard martini is a mix of 5 parts gin to 1 part dry martini. James Bond asked for his martini to be shaken, in a cocktails shaker and not stirred, but the choice is yours! A dirty martini contains a splash of the olive brine, a wet martini has more vermouth added. A vodka martini uses vodka instead of gin.

    • 1tbsp dry martini
    • 5tbsp gin
    • 1 green olive or a twist of lemon peel
    • Ice

    • Pour the dry martini and gin in a cocktail shaker or jug full of ice. Stir for 30 seconds, then strain through a sieve into a chilled cocktail glass and serve with either the olive on a cocktail stick or a twist of lemon peel.

    Top tip for making Martini

The term dry martini refers to the amount of vermouth added. Martinis used to be made with sweet martini, but it is now more popular to use dry vermouth.
